I know people are fed up with this.

But can someone please tell me why Jesus is about love and forgiveness, God is all about smiting your enemies and not forgiving them.

And who or what is the Holy Ghost?

Well, thank God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost for that.

It was a new post - or should have been.

Let's put it this way.
God is a teacher.
Like any good teacher, he takes his pupils at the pace they can manage.
The difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. is the difference between the early stage and the later stage of a teaching process.
(There's a lot about Love in the OT, and a lot about Judgement in tne NT, so they're closer to each other than some people think)

The root of the idea of the Holy Spirit is the power of God- many kinds of power. The Hebrew and Greek words refer to "wind" or "breath". We can't describe much more closely, because we can't imagine.

I could tell you that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father and from the Son" (is sent by both of them), but I don't suppose you want to know that.

You are a mod, are you? you say move along - I am interested in this thread.

Actually, I would like to know if you are a mod, because I have noticed that you keep telling people to move along, and that is quite offensive.

God the Father is about love and forgiveness as well. Haven't you ever heard of the story of Jonah? Or Adam and Eve? Since we're all sinners, God has ever right to just ignore us and punish us, since he is holy. He doesn't do this though. God is patient with us, as well us merciful and gracious.

And who or what is the Holy Ghost?

God.

OK, God is a teacher, but why does He teach destruction and hate and punishment, when His Son teaches love and forgiveness?

No, he's not a mod. The mods all have a big thing on their avatar that says Moderator.

Could you point out where God the Father teaches destruction and hate and punishment?

Adam and Eve were cast out and Jonah was eaten by a whale - I don't know what point you are making.

Maybe this will help you understand how the Holy Trinity works, from a basic level.

If you believe the Bible, that is what God does.

But I think the Bible was written by people who lied, as everyone seems to.

Ok, I will put it like this - if you had God for a father you would be in the loony bin.

If you believe the bible you would be in the loony bin.

The bible is to blame for wars and insanity.

There's no teaching of hate in the Old Testament.
Hatred happens, and training them out of it is a long teaching process.

When you're teaching a child, do you take them into astro-physics staright away, or do you start with the alphabet?

You are deserting rational discussion here.
Isn't that supposed to be our job?
Calm down, calm down, take your emotions out of it.

Yes, all the time in the Old Testament.

That is why I hate the bible, which is a load of lies.
