However, this is a "residential" luxury ship. It is not a normal ship and it is meant as permanent housing for rich elites.

So what is your point? You said the same thing a number of times now and this discussion is going nowhere. So whats the big deal if they take up Residency on the ship? Its a house boat that goes around the world. This is a new option to living on the main land, I'm sure after a few months they will get bored of it and get off at the next port, then fly back to theirs homes on dry land and sell their condo on Utopia to someone else.

Thanks for the update on Utopia's marketing strategies, InvisibleObserver.

FYI - the key partner named in the press release copy you shared, Prudential Elliman, is a real estate firm.

...Free-floating man-made "island homes" were news back in '03-'05. No doubt the super ultra wealthy had already completed construction on their private floating residences back then. Check the ATS archives - I'm pretty sure the topic was discussed here.

Utopia is the choice alternative for the not-quite-so-ultra elite. 6000+ square feet or no, customized or not - a condo on a floating island just isn't in the same league as a private floating island.

...The Mercenary Industry really took off back in the 1970's-'80's - with 'small' armies providing security for the ultra-wealthy's land-based estates. Since then, costs have soared, the natives have become even more restless, riots and revolution are looming everywhere, and the planet has become more noticeably unstable.

What with the anticipated social and geophysical upheavals - it's more cost effective and much safer to take to the seas. Or space. But the space-escapes are available only to the super-super-ultra-ultra wealthy. Leaving Utopia for the super-ultra wannabes.

One massive petri dish.
There's no way I'd want to share that space for very long, let them have their floating jail.

Well, all I can say is they can't stay at sea forever, even when the ! hits the fan. The ship must be refueled and restocked at some point, so they can run - but they can't hide...
