BP: New Effort to Contain Oil Spill Underway

The top executive of oil giant BP says his company should know by Friday if the latest effort to stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is successful.

BP chief executive Tony Hayward said cutting away the top of the broken well riser Thursday was the start of the latest process. BP next plans to put a containment device over the leaking well, which has been spewing for six weeks in the worst oil spill in U. S. history.

Image made from video provided by British Petroleum (BP PLC), 2 Jun 2010, shows site of Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Everything BP had tried in its efforts to contain the oil spill has so far failed.

To save any more oil from polluting the Gulf of Mexico, why not nuke the oil spill with a tactical nuke?

If the Russians could nuke oil and gas spills with tactical nukes, so can the Americans.

It only needs some calculations and a few tac nukes from either the U.S. Army or Air Force.

I'm not a nuclear expert by any means but it strikes me as being a bad idea to nuke the oil well - the reason being what if they ignite the oil reservoir beneath the seabed? Oil burn + enclosed space = explosion of a magnitude only seen if Yellowstone were to erupt.

Just a thought.....
