Israel would be smart to use "Kid Gloves" on this one and wait until they approach the 12 mile limit. I do think this ship will divert to Israeli port.

I think a lot of things are at play in the Middle East right now not just the Flotilla incident but other things hitting the news. The fact that Israel announced that the deployed submarines equiped with nuclear tipped cruise missles to the Persian Gulf. Obama giving the go-ahead to Russia to sell Iran S300 air defense system.

I think the air defense deal is significant in itself. Just a hypothesis here, but what if Iran's Nuke Program is for Power and Medical Isotopes. That would be the only reason why Russia would get involved. I don't think the Billions in investment there by the Russians would be the reason for this deal. Obama backing is perhaps a way to stall the Israelis from attacking Iran and launching the whole region into war with lot's of beaten up US hardware stuck in the middle.

Turkey plays the key role here and the ball is in their court. If both sides choose to escalate then the middle east will get out of control and you might see another Coalition of Arab countries. If Israel attacks Iran and things get messy with Turkey then other Arab Nations may view this as a threat to their existence as if this is allowed then their future growth could be threatened by air attacks and war.

As far as Iran goes, I think the strike is nearing as Israel wouldn't have announced moving nuclear armed subs into the Persian Gulf if they weren't planning on striking soon. It seems wise to start now as the summer provides good weather. The subs are to send a message that we'll wipe you out if necessary.

As far as the Flottila incident goes, I think Israel acted stupidly in this manner. It would have been far easier to escort it into the Gazan Port which I'm sure Israel could control and detain them then and inspect the cargo. If it clears then distribute it from there. Shuts up the Humanitrian groups that are complaining essential things aren't getting through.

Israel is handling Gaza like the British tried to handle Northern Ireland. Shut it down, constrict movement. Inspect things going in and out. Israel just bumped up this concept up on steroids. Israel would have been smarter to wait until at least the 12 mile limit to do this raid. International Waters is piracy.


And there does seem to be a lot of new members lately who if you read through the thread are at it for like 4-5 hours straight.

To blame the people in Gaza for what's happening is wrong. Sure the political situation isn't ideal there but was their election any different then any of ours. I often have to vote for the lesser of the evils at election times. Theirs was no different, it's just that Hamas was their only other choice come election time. These people are desperate. There's hardly any food, water and all that.

What would you do?

yes i can understand how innocent peeps can be subjected to torture and wrongful inprisonment that ultimately converts them into real terrorists.

flotilla will ''liberate'' Gaza?Does anyone beleive that peace in ME can be
achieved without Israel beeing recognized by their neoghbours?

Even if Israel will agree with '67 borders, even Israel will give Jerusalem
as capital city for a future palestinian state...it won't be enough.
The arabs wants only one thing : Israel to stop exist.

And there is only way to achive this : force them to leave.But just
remember '48, '67 and '73.

Stop sending more ships to break the blockade (which , btw, since Gaza
is NOT a state, its not illegal...but again, is not legal also), world already
KNOW what is happening in Gaza, and try to help via UN or simply via
Israel and Egypt.

Israel is there to stay, the blockade is there to stay (as long as Hamas is
rulling Gaza) and this won't change without a clear winner : Israel or
Arabs.No flotilla will make any diference in the big scheme.

As new as i am on ATS , i still know that Gaza is NOT a country...beleive it
or not.
The blockade is not legal , but its not illegal also.
The point i wanted to make with NK is simple : north koreans are also
human beeings , just like the palestinians in Gaza.
Simple question that arises is WHY start with helping 1,7 million is Gaza
while is same time the need to help the 23 million north koreans is far, far
more acute.
Nobody YET, died of hunger in Gaza...but NK had almost 1 million dead
in the middle 90's famine.

But, why help the north koreans? There are no jews to be blamed for what
is happening there with 23 million (compared to NK, Gaza is a heaven).
