Place your bets!
here is mine:

Epic Falure

Some way some how this will also fail. I live on the coast and I also use to work offshore ( thanks Obama ). This Spill will kill the offshore oil industry and the Gulf coast seafood industry as well.

When the Oil hits the beaches and the marshes tourism is done as well.

This accident has forever changed the way of life on the Gulf coast.

It really is a Black Plague. S&F

They just killed the Enterprise ROV 1 and ROV 2 video streams.

Edit: All streams back up at 20:17

I noticed that also.. now no action. I've noticed in the past they wait till night when there are less people watching to try the risky stuff.

Awesome they just got the 'Hat' on top.

Lots of oil still blowing out and all around it though.

I still don't think its gonna work....

Yeah that would constitute another fail. Dang. I'm not happy with BP, but I certainly am rooting for them at this juncture.

Very interesting watching it live.

So what holds the Cap on? What stops the leaking where it connects?

Doesn't look too good.. no better than the pipe they had connected before.

This was suppose to fit over a clean cut.. but they couldn't get a clean cut and I don't think it is working.

Wow, that did absolutely nothing to reduce the leak.

Actually, the cap is on good -- but they have not installed the long pipe to the tophat or LMRCPDH 99-9483j Alpha --whatever the hell they call it yet.

If they can get the pipe into the tophat, and lock it in place, and the pressure stays the same (same amount leaking under the hat--which IS MUCH lower than a full gusher) it will probably get 60-70% of the oil.
What I worry about is once they add the thin pipe, the pressure could reverse and go down and out under the hat...

I think right now, the ROV's arm is holding it down (and the second arm is clamped to the riser pipe... dunno for sure.

Once it's on, they will bolt it to the existing pipe (they have 2 or 4 screw holes for it).

Hope this works--or at least gets most of the oil....

BTW -- Thanks to the member that posted the link to all the cameras on one page! That's what I've been looking for! Awesome! Thank you!

Well lets give it about a day or so.

Then we can call it an Epic Failure.

Hey BP let Boots & Coots Try ....

They are the pros.

why not have some massive pump hooked upto the hose they are attching to the new cap and suck the oil out to catch all of it instead of just letting it siphon and catch half the oil?

It looks like there is a lot less crude/gas leaking as of right now?

Am i watching the wrong cameras or did they actually get something to work?

Not sure if that cap is working right but it appears to be doing something?

I have been watching since 19:40 CST before they put the top hat on. It looks to me that the same amount of oil is still coming out.

I still don't think this will work but I hope it does.

crap i hope this top hat idea works to significantly reduce the flow of oil/gas.
im sick of hearing about this spill and id rather be hearing about a massive cleanup effort.

does anyone know what we are looking at right now in the enterprise rov1 cam?
is this the top of the hat?
