Spoken like a true democrat.

Take away from those who earn it because others who didn't earn it want it.

So because you make poor life decisions and have past obligations you failed to meet and maybe failed to try and make your life better through skills & education it's her fault.???

I work for a city government and yes I get a TON of paid days off, holidays, sick days, vacation time accrues faster than I can use it.

But ya know what? I bust my @ss when I work and do very labor intensive work.

I spent my life learning valuable skills that would further my career choices and now I do pretty well. I don't feel sorry for those who didn't.

You get out of life what you put into it and sounds like what you got was a crappy, low paying job with no benefits.

It's not my fault nor is it hers. quit whining and pick yourself up and do something about it.

Pay off the back child support, get a license and move forward.....

Or, just hate people who actually got ahead in life..... :shk:

That's funny, someone who apparently is a Republican (you know, the same people who bitch and complain that the POTUS is a socialist, has a job with socialist benefits, all at tax payer expense.)

This feeling of entitlement I just don't understand, what sort of education do you have that it is preferable to pay you to NOT work? It's baffling to me how people can think they are entitled to money they did not earn.

Ill admit, you are right, I have made some bad life choices. It's true, where I am today is no one's fault but mine.

As for my obligations to child support and my back child support, happily enough, I will be caught up December 2011. Kinda sucks when you are thrown immediately behind in support the second you are divorced. (makes it difficult to catch up.) At that time, I will be able to get my drivers license back.I wasn't actually bitching about the support I owe. It's just another obstacle that I must overcome.

I have gone through my entire life working for what I have. If I wanted a vacation, I earned it, I worked for it, I saved for it, I didn't demand that my employer PAY for the time I was not there. How completely ridiculous is that concept?

You provide absolutely zero benefit to your employer when you are not at work, you provide zero benefits to customers or clients while you are away from work, so it seems odd to me that you would assume that your time is valuable enough to your employer to actually expect them to pay you to not be there.

To me that sounds quite socialist. You know, like a Union, of workers. Hmm, I wonder where that concept came from? Bunch of Bolshevik ideology. And people wonder why this economy is doing so poorly? Hell, if everyone is entitled to not work and get paid for it, why not right? I mean you seem to be entitled to take time off from work and for some odd reason have every expectation that your employer pays you for that time off.

And you call ME a Democrat? Really? From what it sounds like to me, you seem quite happy with your liberal ways. (of course you probably convince yourself that you are a true conservative.)

I understand that you are frustrated by this... and i really do feel for ya man... but think of it this way...

Should you be angry that she gets all these benefits... or should you be angry that other employers do not provide this level of care for their employees??

It reminds me of my old work place... all of the non smokers got together and told the managers that they thought that it wasn’t fair that the smokers are allowed to go on smoke breaks... "If we can’t have one then they shouldn’t have one"

How stupid is that... not one of them thought to ask if they could also have a break to make a coffee, or just get some fresh air... they were too caught up in anger and rage to think logically and stamped their feet and demanded that a benefit be taking from others rather than a benefit be given to them...

Basically they were cutting of their nose to spite their face!

I know you probably don’t want to hear this but... Good for her!! At least someone in this evil dog eat dog society is having a nice life!! I hope that one day you to find a job that treats you like a human and not like a slave.

I know it can be frustrating... but trust me... bide your time, all storms pass...

Peace!

I am NOT a republican first off.

I endorse neither party.

True, I am no benefit to my employer while I am not there.

The thing is that when they hired me they got skills that the other 119 applicants couldn't offer.

I am a SAE certified automotive technician which they need to keep the fleet of vehicles running.

I am a certified welder, arborist, Pool & hot tub technician, Pesticide applicator, and a state certified play-ground safety inspector (as silly as that sounds, its a requirement in a city park here) & electrician.

I have a Class A CDL and experience in doubles, triples, tankers and have a haz-mat endorsement.

I can and have run about every type of heavy equipment excluding large cranes.

My job entails many different types of work and you have to be very good at them all including construction, framing, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, tree trimming, turf care, irrigation & painting.

I also prep all the ball fields for the different baseball & softball leagues so you have to know the difference between them all. Do they use 60' bases, 65',70'. 90'??
Which pitchers mound? 35', 40', 50', 55', or 60'6" for Baseball??
Does that league use a pitchers plate or a mound?

Then there is soccer, flag football, volleyball, tennis, Frisbee golf, marathons and bike races to set up for.

Not many people know how to do all that. It's hard to get all that knowledge in one person..... so I got the job.

They needed me more than I needed them because at the time I already had a job where I made twice the money.

Why in the world would anybody quit a higher paying job to work for less money???? That's right! BENEFITS

Benefits are a way of luring highly qualified people to your company

Now I make less money but I get paid vacations, paid sick days & retirement.

I guess thats wrong too huh? retirement?
Why should anyone pay you when you dont work there any longer.

Because I paid into it for 20 years+

I look at it as they are paying for my loyalty for spending 20 years there
and providing the skills, blood & sweat for those 20 years.

I am most likely older than you AND have been EXACTLY where you are
(job wise) except the child support thing as I took my kids after the divorce and raised them....... She paid me support. (or was supposed to)
She owes me $85,000 in back support but that's another story.

I came across harder than I meant to in the last post, I guess I was having a crappy day. Sorry about that, not your fault.

I am doing fairly well in my life now but in the past it wasn't always so.

I KNOW what it's like to be homeless and live in an alley, stealing food to survive

I know what it's like to be addicted to drugs and lose everything you have.

What you are or WHERE you are now don't matter. Just where you go in the future.

I thought anti-union beliefs were more of a republican popular opinion?

Anyhow, whatukno, if they are garnishing your paychecks and using some of that towards the back support, shouldn't you be able to get your license back? I am not aware of Floridas laws, but that is how it is in Minnesota.

Regarding your room mate, perhaps there is a reason why she is taking the time off. Perhaps if she doesn't use the time she looses it, or maybe she is having trouble dealing with the kids on her route and is worn out or maybe on the serious side she is dealing with some sort of depression or declining health that may not be visible to the naked eye.

Have you asked her why she is taking so much time off? Maybe start with "Hey are you feeling ok? I was wondering because you seem to be home a lot"

It's all about the empathy!

It is because if she doesn't use it, she looses it.

The problem isn't really that she has these benefits, it's that I work at night, and when she is home, she watches tv, plays music etc. It makes it difficult to sleep.

I have asked her to keep it down a notch, which she has, the tv isn't loud, I can still hear it, it still bothers me, but it's not at an unreasonable level.

As for my drivers license, I have asked the court to reinstate my license, they won't do it, not until it's all paid up. I have had my support order reduced, that way I pay it up faster, so December 2011 is when I will be able to get my license back.

It's still my opinion that benefit packages are one of the reasons that this economy is in the shape it's in. People are expecting to get something for nothing, it's in my opinion far worse than someone receiving welfare.

Here we have a person, who is well qualified to do the job, but a number of days during the year, the company looses productivity, and keeps a larger overhead because that person is being paid to not work. To me, it makes no logical sense business wise.

When I worked at the Stanley, I received things like sick days, and personal days, I was never able to use them because no one was willing to cover for me if I took a night off. So, at the end of the year, I would receive this as an extra check. So, to the company, they lost a couple of grand to me for no extra work.

I really don't see what missing a Child support payment has to do with your licence or car?

It's a Florida state thing, and is absolutely retarded. I have no children of my own blood, but this seems to fly in the face of common sense. Yes, the state can (and will) take away your drivers license for owing back child support.

In addition, as the OP said, yes, in this state, it is very possible to be technically "behind" in your child support as of the moment of the divorce (i.e. "arrears", which then triggers other crap...I've seen it done to friends, and even my wife has to deal with it from time to time.)

For example, she has support taken right out of her paycheck, defined by a settlement order, but then gets a notice she is behind. WTF??? This state is completely idiotic when it comes to bureaucracy in this area....

WOW they take your drivers licence?? What kind of logic is that? It has nothing to do with your ability to drive I presume, they are simply restricting your earning options?

That's whack.

It sucks! Of course the court will say that child support is not a punishment. It's a lie, If you loose a child custody case, they screw you as much as they possibly can. Not only will they take your drivers license, your credit is affected, you will be denied jobs especially by jobs that check your credit rating. You have to apply to jobs get them without telling them that you have the child support order, that way you can get the job, then, you give them the child support order.

Basically, to the world, if you owe child support, you are a criminal right off the bat. Everyone assumes that your a deadbeat, everyone assumes your terrible, your credit get's trashed. It's overall a horrible experience. You basically loose all your rights, and get treated like zaiger treated me in this thread. You are assumed guilty.

The only thing i said you were guilty of is misleading people. It is not like you are told you have to start paying child support and the start with revoking your drivers licence and garnishing your wages. Both those things are a result of not paying child support. First they take your licence and then they garnish your wages. If you continue to not pay then you will get a small ammount of jail time. Then you go on to say that you do pay your obligations because the child support is taken out of your check but the only reason it is being taken from you is because you did not pay it in the first place.
Then you go on about how your room mate makes more money then you and gets to watch TV so you somehow figgure that she is getting paid to watch television and how it is not fair because your wages are garnished ad she watches TV while you are at work.

Child support is only a crime if you run from it, and you are paying yours so you are not a criminal.

It should be like most things if you are on a payment plan. For example, if your phone is in danger of getting shut off, you call and make a payment arrangement and they don't shut your phone off.

They are garnishing from your check, they have made an arrangement for you therefore they should NOT take your license away. They don't do what Florida does in every state. That's insane.

By the way Zaiger, just because they are garnishing your paycheck doesn't make you a deadbeat. In most states, the child support department garnishes paychecks at the start of the child support order for most orders. Usually there are only a few exceptions to this. It doesn't mean that the non-custodial parent is a deadbeat if they garnish his paycheck. It's the way they prefer child support to be paid in general.

Assumed? No i know. I know that you get your licence taken away for not paying your child support. I know that your wages get garnished for not paying your child support. So you are not fulfilling your obligation on your own you are being forced to because you do not have a say in the matter.

You didn't have the facts, you just assumed, you insinuated that I purposely skipped out of my obligation.

Yeah never called you a deadbeat. What i said was if you do not pay your child support they take your l icence property and wages. They do not suspend your licence and start garnishing your wages the second you are ordered to pay child support.
