So I have been keeping an eye on these guys since they were formed in Luton, UK last year. Since then there numbers have skyrocketed, with as many as
3,000 at a recent demonstration!
EDL are by most standards a extreme right wing fractionalist group, with a motto of 'Peacfully protesting against extreme Islam' and they claim to
Among thier ranks are BNP members, former Combat-18 members and even, according to the Guardian articles linked, almost 1000 members of the UK armed
I have actually filmed a number of thier 'peaceful demonstations' and being verbally and physically threatned on a number of occasions, including
those who were senior 'authority' figures within the organisation. It becomes starkly obvious that the majority of EDL's members are in fact
racist, go to a march and you will see for yourself (although don't get too close).
From my experience, it seems that the EDL is made up largely of football 'hooligans', which again becomes very clear when in thier presence- with
very articulate and to the point chants such as 'Lets go F*****g mental, Lets go F****g mental' or 'Muslim bombers off our streets, Muslim bombers
off our streets' and 'We Love you England we do, We Love England we do'.
Needless to say, these guys can be incredibly violent.
According to the Guardian undercover report (linked), the EDL are threatening to march through heavily Muslim populated areas such as Bradford and
Tower Hamlets, London- one can only assume in order to cause trouble.
Please take the time to browse through the following articles from the Guardian and also watch the embedded videos.
I would be very interested to hear what ATS has to say!
They don't understand what they are doing is incredibly dangerous. I agree, we need to crack down on Islamic extremism, but marching through Muslim
neighborhoods chanting racially motivated rhetoric is just look for full scale riots.
They want to poke the bear. They know if they get the Muslims all rhiled up that will spread fear among the Brits and lead to their numbers increasing
and votes for the far right to skyrocket from fears of violent Islamic backlash.
