Lebanon fires on Israeli warplanes: security official

(AFP) – 43 minutes ago JERUSALEM — Lebanon's military fired anti-aircraft artillery at Israeli warplanes that were flying over Lebanon, a senior Israeli security official said on Tuesday. "Our aircraft have been targeted by the Lebanese anti-aircraft guns while flying over southern Lebanon, and there was no damage," the official who requested the anonymity told AFP. A military spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied the report. Lebanon issues almost daily reports of Israeli violations of its air space, but its military rarely opens fire unless the planes fly within range of its guns.

Well this does not come as a surprise to me. As it says in the article, Israel violates Lebanon airspace daily and Lebanon just lets them go but after this flotilla event I think Israels neighbors are sick and tired of there violations. Is it me or is Israel trying to start WWIII? After hearing and seeing some of the reports and videos on the entire situation I am convinced Israel does not have peace in the middle east at there heart. Now I am speaking about the Israeli government,not there people who i'm sure half of them are upset about the entire event themselves. I'm only hoping more citizens in Israel speak up before its too late.

Israel does have peace in mind, but only when the Arabs actually promise the reality of a Jewish state in the ME called Israel.

Some might even say that Israel was stupid to give back the Sinai to Egypt, silly to leave Gaza unilaterally and daft to give up south Lebanon when the Arabs were never going to offer a true peace to Israel but actually gang up on the state.

Some might even say Israel should have pushed on in previous wars when it had the chance and have taken Damascus, Cairo and Beirut and made a state that was big enough to have proper defensible borders.

What are the chances that this will start WW3?

They have been at each other's throats forever

Well I doubt that this actual event would spark WWIII but this just points out how much closer we are getting to another war in the middle east. I am still uncertain of Obama's view on the whole Flotilla event but if he supports Israel then we know what that means if Israel gets in a full blown war.....

If a Lebanese AA hit an Israeli war plane... There will be HARD retaliation.

for shooting down an aircraft in ones territory?
now whos in the wrong, this isnt international air space but theirs.

if this was any of other country with decent anti aircraft system that plane would either be escorted out or destroyed.

you cant fly into someone elses airspace and not expect to be told to f off?

But Israel gave Palestine a two state solution proposal where they aren't allowed any arms whatsoever while Israel can be all up in arms and refuses to be a signatory for nuclear weapons.

Doesn't this happen all the time? I remember reading a similar story recently on here and reading that it's not uncommon for Lebanon to fire at the intruding aircraft.

i heard they got Scuds and other long range missles but dont know anything about SAM systems,

This is true but every report of a airspace violation in the past has always been Israeli jets so as you said,nothing new. Besides the fact that the entire Arab world is not so happy with them at this moment.

It would be silly to fire at the aircraft if they weren't in range, now wouldn't it?

The flak was reportedly shot by Lebanon,not Hezbollah so we can safely assume that the Lebanon military was just trying to scare them out of the airspace with the flak although I do not know if Lebanon has actual Anti air missiles.
