I'm just a casual fighter aircraft enthusiast but I would guess in the late 20th and early 21st century air to air combat records have much more to do with the quality and quantity of training pilots receive, maintenance history and superior missile technology, strategy (including awacs) then individual airframes.

This thread seems to be favoring generation 4+ aircraft. I'm curious to know what the percentage of beyond visual range kills vs dogfight kills are.

Thats a good point you have there. The Hurricane and spitfire were awesome, but the hurricane was the better of the two.

didnt some crazy german guy sink a bunch of battleships and kill a whole butload of tanks in a stuka i think it was? if your going on kills id problay have to say you would have to solely look at ww2 planes for the best as well as numbers produced (i think) thats just my opinion though
