NATO to meet Tuesday on Gaza flotilla raid

www.nowlebanon.com

NATO will hold emergency talks on Tuesday at Turkey's behest after the deadly Israeli raid on a flotilla of aid-carrying ships bound for Gaza, NATO spokesperson James Appathurai said.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in Santiago, Chile, that his government was demanding the NATO council gather to address a crisis that has already seen Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut short a visit to Canada and Washington, where he had been due to meet with US President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

Appathurai said in a statement that the military alliance is deeply con

They freaking know what Israel did, by boarding and killing people on a Turkish ship in INTERNATIONAL WATERS was an act of war against Turkey and against NATO.

Time to invoke rule ``An attack on one is an attack on everyone`` from NATO.

Time for the US to decide to side with Israel and their war crimes and destroy NATO or side with Turkey and bomb Israel.

I suspect that this has a real potential to cause a big rift in NATO.

There is no way that the USA is going to side with Turkey on this, and turn on Israel. That being the case I can actually see (as a possibility) that Turkey could resign as a NATO member.

If they did do that, you can sort of see their point of view... What good an alliance that doesn't stand solidly with it's members, when assets belonging to that member are attacked.

But like I said... Hell will freeze over, before the USA ever allows NATO to be used against Israel. It just ain't EVER going to happen.

Strange times we live in

where do i begin, NATO and the UN went into bosnia and kosovo as peace keepers, the war started in 1992. The eventual airstrikes were retaliation for genocide.

I agree with the issues that come from this current situation, but there is only so much the other members of NATO will stand from the US, i think Israel as gone too far this time, and if NATO wont back them, then i'm pretty sure, Russia and The Arab League will.

Israel needs to be punished, if Iran had done this to US aid shipments then we'd be talking about airstrikes right now.

A BILLION TIMES THIS.

I'm sick of the hypocrisy and Israel being above everyone else in international law.

Turkey has been steadily moving away from the West.

Many in Turkey have forgotten or ignored the legacy of Ataturk.

This very well could permanently end Turkey's bid to enter the EU and push it out of NATO. Turkey is unlikely to back down, even if they know what happened.

Israel has no desire to fight Turkey.

If Turkey sends jets and ships to escort another blockade run, Israel could end up ending the blockade.

More likely though, Israel will appeal to the US for support.

Many in the Pentagon have not forgotten Turkey's actions in 2003 and the US Congress still wants the Armenian genocide brought to light.

If Turkey pushes too far too fast, the Armenian genocide will be brought to the forefront and the Kurdish insurgency could gain some very powerful support.

Turkey could answer they are trying to make amends, not what we see Israel do with the Palestinians...

Turks are no pushovers. A lot of people don't hear much about Turkey for it has been stable and peaceful for so long. It is actually an important geopolitical asset for NATO and the economy of the region.
It is hosting US bases and nukes if I am correct.
If Turkey leaves the West to join Russia, China, Iran and the SCO alliances, it will mean huge shifts in powers.

Yeah well many analysts, me included, predicted this will happen years before this last crisis.

As much as I don't like Israel's crimes, NATO/the west, must do everything they can so Turkey stays ``on our side``...

Anyway, Erdogan is gonna be kicked out of power soon and the secularists are gonna be back in power in no time if the west doesn't do something stupid so the Turkish population backs Erdogan like the American public backed that son of a gun Bush after 9/11.

But eh, since the elite loves chaos, I'm pretty sure they gonna let them slip away and let them side with SCO so our path to WW3 can advance a few steps more.

Israel is more important to the interests of the world than the Ottomans. Turkey needs to be kicked out of NATO. The Turks can't fight anyway they proved that in WW I. Besides they like to massacre Armenians, its a hobby of theirs, oh and they do the same to Kurds.

It's ironic, people are really still expecting that something will come out of this. When I read that our (pro-Israel) minister of foreign affairs as well as the US say that they first want Israel to conduct a thorough investigation before drawing conclusions, I already know enough.

US + Veto = Israeli immunity

"Consensus decision-making at NATO
A fundamental principle

All NATO decisions are made by consensus, after discussion and consultation among member countries.

A decision reached by consensus is an agreement reached by common consent, a decision that is accepted by each member country. This means that when a "NATO decision" is announced, it is the expression of the collective will of all the sovereign states that are members of the Alliance.

This principle is applied at every committee level, and demonstrates clearly that NATO decisions are collective decisions made by its member countries.
How this principle is applied

Consensus decision-making means that there is no voting at NATO. Consultations take place until a decision that is acceptable to all is reached. Sometimes member countries agree to disagree on an issue. In general, this negotiation process is rapid since members consult each other on a regular basis and therefore often know and understand each other's positions in advance.

Facilitating the process of consultation is one of the NATO Secretary General's main tasks.

The consenus principle applies throughout NATO.
The origins of this principle

Consensus has been accepted as the sole basis for decision-making in NATO since the creation of the Alliance in 1949.

I have begun to accept the fact that Israel is a a Law unto themsleves. They can literally get away with murder and assasinations as they please. In a way the international communities hands are tied, so Israel will continue to behave in this manner. Strong words of condemnation comming from World leaders is water of a ducks back for Israel. They dont care about the opinions of others.

Behind closed doors, the Israeli lobbies still yield vast amounts of influence in the US and UK, so words of condemnation are about as tough as it will get for Israel

You know something, the entire world, besides USA actually don't give a sh*t about Israel . Israel have only one friend in this world and that's the USA , and it's most probably a forced friendship that will end with bad repercussions for the Israelis.

By the way these are your words from other thread : "You can't have a humanitarian crisis if it doesn't involve humans and the Palestinians aren't".

You've made your point , you can stop spamming around taking Israel's sides with retarded lines

Israel. Its surrounded by what it calls enemies, who pose no real threat to Israel because the Israelis have amazing anti missile tech rendering all ballistic attacks moot. Of its enemies, it has no fear.
Israel is a friend to at least one of the most powerful states on the planet, but tends to do and say things which land itself and its allies in the doo doo. Of its friends it has no fear.
Israel has a faith, one possesed of a single God, who time and again has told the human race to stop killing one another. A God who drowned the world to save it, who allowed seas to part so that his people could escape egypt. Yet his people behave like savages. Of its GOD Israel has no fear.
Israel has a history , inhereted from its people. A history full of despair for the lost, and abject misery for the living, memories of camps and ovens, lines ended, innocence lost. It has a history of forgetting what seperated itself, from that which almost destroyed it. Of its past, of becoming worse than its most dangerous enemy , Israel has no fear.
It must learn there are some things that you dont do, and there are some things that you should fear.

Turkey has just taken the position of Security Council chair on Nato.

As of June the first.

Plus Turkey has suffered more attacks by the PKK.

This is just getting wierd. Isreal seems to be directly antagonising Turkey, and by proxy, NATO.
