Marine aircraft mishap injures 10 at NYC park

www.google.com

NEW YORK — A U.S. Marine Corps aircraft's powerful propellers whipped up a wind that sent branches hurling off a tree and into a crowd of about 150 people watching a Memorial Day demonstration in a park, leaving 10 people with cuts and other minor injuries, officials and a witness said.

As the Osprey MV-22 aircraft landed at Staten Island's Clove Lakes Park on Monday morning, the wind generated by its twin rotors stirred tree limbs, dirt from a nearby baseball field and other debris into a swirl that sent spectators scattering, witness Ann Hirsch said.

Wow, right in the middle of a Memorial Day celebration?

Just saw this on CNN. WOW!

Is this a show of force, or a crash landing.

Something stinks here. What the hell, why are these pilot landing in a New York park. Military should not be authorized to fly over populated areas unless in emergency.

What next? Are they going to start flying unmanned nuclear armed aircraft over the US?

Oops!

Here's a video of the entire event.

Something is strange about this. Do you see at 1:24 where they have someone on a stretcher?

What a mistake by the pilot. He came in far to low over that treeline.

The EMTs sure responded quickly; good that they were there -- but they shouldn't have had to be.

Am I the only one who kept tilting their head to the right, wishing that the person with the video camera would pan??

Why on earth was that thing landing publicly like that, people seemed to be confused.

The one lady even said, "Oh! We were about to go over there!"

Gosh that was a bit of a dampener wasn’t it..

One: The civilians are not trained about action and reaction of any defence equipment ie: copter, tank, bushmaster what have you.

Two: The defence isn’t trained about the civilians not being trained.

Let’s hope everyone learns from this.

It's fleet week here in NYC (I was @ the Intrepid yesterday & it was AWESOME) this isn't an invasion , It's not pilot error. It's a bunch of people that have never been around rotary winged aircraft and panicked at the "Rotor Wash" , I've never been in the osprey But I've been in and out of CH-46's enough to know rotor wash when I see it. Some of you people really need to take it easy...

Of course it was pilot error. Unless you're saying it was intentional, which I don't think you are. A pilot is at all times responsible for the controllable effects of his craft. He shouldn't have taken it so low over that treeline.

They were hurt by branches and debris, not some kind of panicked scramble.

Were those perhaps tabloid camera and video phones, too?
