Totally agree.

As the very great Douglas Adams once wrote: "Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so"

I do sometimes think Adams should be compulsory reading for all world leaders. Very funny. But astute.

They weren't heading for Israeli waters, they were on a course for Gaza.

The only reason Israeli forces stopped them was to prevent much needed aid from getting through to ease the suffering of the ordinary people of Gaza.

If the Turkish navy escorts the aid ships i'm pretty sure a war will break out. Israel does not seem to know how to manage these tense situations and i'm sure they would use force against the vessels if necessary.

It will only be a matter of time and the whole middle east will launch on Israel. That's not gonna be good for the US cause we back Israel.

But we might as well sit back and watch as the SHTF because there is nothing more we can do but post what we find.

I am more worried about what our government is doing to crush our freedoms and destroy liberty. It saddens me that more and more people are willing to trade liberty for security.

I will not be one of those.

It looks to me like it was just an act of self defense, most of the "aid" that these groups send is in the form of trained terrorist and weapons. ( also appears to be some very good shooting by the idf.)

This incident has really made all the anti-semites go nuts, especially the ones who state they're not 'anti-semitic but...'; their posts just reek of irrational hatred. Of course the Israeli govt has committed a grave act, however this is not an excuse to go berserk against all Israeli and Jewish people, many of whom would be just as horrified as anyone else at this shocking event. The really psycho anti-semitic conspiracy sites are also going nuts...no surprise there.

Hating the policies of the state of Israel and trying to help those suffering under poor polices does not make one antisemitic. I think you will find that there are plenty of Jews who also disagree with the action of Israel.

Besides, the government of Israel is suppose to be a secular government. Which means criticism against Israel is against a secular government, not a Jewish government. Which sort of makes the whole antisemitic argument ridiculous.

Unless you are trying to tell us that the Israel government isn't secular despite their constant claims of being so.

For anyone in the other thread who was saying that Israel is weak and cowardly ect.

en.wikipedia.org...

They raped people. Hard. And they can do it again. Israel spends more money per capita on military than any other country in the world. (if I remember correctly)

You don't mess with that.

Worth noting that, until now, Turkey was an ally of Israel - one of the few predominantly muslim countries that supported it.

Though also has to be said that Turkey is looking to assert it's influence in regional politics so is not beyond prior motive itself.

It's a blockade. You try to pass it, you get shot. This was stupid.

Also I love how everyone is like "BAH, ISRAEL TRUE COLORS", "BAH, ISRAEL WILL PAY".

No. No one will pay. If any of you had any training in international affairs, you would know exactly what is going to happen. Who ever sent the convoy is going to be pissed, bah humbugs back and forth, and then it will be forgotten about within a few weeks. And I guarantee most of you won't even recall this a year later.

Stop getting all up in arms. All this shows is that Israel is serious business and not bending to anyone trying to push it. Which for all intensive purposes, it's pretty cool.

In every war there have been blockades. And blockades do what blockades do. If you don't know what they do, then don't act like this is some kind of war crime or evil act.

This is Business as usual. No change. No war.

I hate to break it to you but Gaza's shoreline is part of Israel's waters.

I also don't like the fact you don't know that Israel provides daily support for Gaza through UNRWA. There is no goal by Israel to deny any aid to gaza.
Although, because several weapon ships have already been captured in the area, Israel takes no chance and wants to scan the cargo before it is unloaded into Gaza.

If the flotila's goal was indeed to bring aid to Gaza, why refuse to stop at Ashdod's port to have Israeli officials scan for weapons or missiles then continue to Gaza through the boarders in a sane way, instead of trying to break a goddamned military blockade with an unarmed ship?
IF YOU THINK THIS FLOTILA'S GOAL WAS NOT TO MAKE HEADLINES YOU ARE DELUDING YOURSELF

By the way, I havn't seen one person mentioning, in this thread, that the first wave of soldiers went in with paint guns in the form of standard issue rifles.
The videos clearly show how the soldiers are being ambushed yet don't resort to fire yet. That is because they are unarmed, or atleast have to reach for the emergency pistols they were armed with.

Israeli haters? Really?

You'll find that I'm one of the more outspoken members of the "Israel has the right to defend themselves..." club here on ATS. Haven't changed that opinion in the slightest.

This action, however, is so blindingly stupid as to beggar the imagination. Not to mention unjustified.

This action is, in the broadest interpretations, blatant high seas piracy. An unarmed civilian relief attempt was attacked. People were killed. A better script for the anti-Israeli cause couldn't have been written by a Hollywood screen writer...

The sheer arrogance of this still boggles my mind. It's time, and past, for Israel to get spanked for this... President Obama would be wise to distance himself, and our country, from even a tacit support of Israel.

This will come before the UN security council soon. Keep that damned veto in your pocket, Mr. President. Let the chips fall where they may. Israel won't collapse if we don't support them. But maybe, just maybe, they'll hear this message. Though I doubt it...we can hope.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

what I said in the other post:

Israel is all the bad in this freaking world, they just seem to not want peace, they want domination .... I just dont get why the media protects them, they probably own everyone in Washington, its not possible that they are supported until today

its just shameful

and yes, I am talking about Israel government, I am not talking about their people, 2 different things ... *

Spin it all you like, But the fact is it was all recorded live.

On what law of the universe does it state that all unarmed civilian vessels do not carry things that are bad, such as....

Drugs

weapons

criminals

illegal aliens

war leaders

poisoned food

bad water

bombs (the ship itself for ramming)

etc etc.

If anything, they should have vouched the UN to support them. But nay, they wanted to show a point. To me, they showed how dumb they are.

In all likelihood that's exactly what'll happen. Unfortunate, but true. This'll also be fodder for the next generation of hamas fighter/terrorists.

Israel couldn't have screwed this up any more had they set out screw it up intentionally...

remember the decade long missile attacks on them when they were not in Palestine? Peace talks? attempts to stop? All that before the actual aggression?

Oh right. You don't. That would make you wrong.

Lol, how was he killed exactly? Now the accusation is against the IDF SHIPS that opened fire?

And you accuse me of spinning it..
Anyway I'm serious I'd like to know what you're talking about and see the said video.
