Traditionally wars have been used to create jobs and jump start economies, but natural and man made disasters do seem like a better option for job creation.

A move towards the 20 hour work week and free energy seems like an even better move though.

A star for integrity towards yourself, honesty towards us, and for the release of tensions for me! Who would have thought a tormentor would bring relaxation?

and they are "green" jobs, which are good for the enviroment, too.

Ok, well if (hypothetically speaking) someone were to burn your home down, you would have a new job of rebuilding your home. So are you saying you would support anyone who decided to burn your house down?

I think it's pretty clear to most people that this will destroy far, far more business than it will create. Think of all the fishermen and brachfront resort people, restaurants, etc. that will be damaged by this. Real estate, already in a precarous position, has plunged into a black hole in the gulf areas. Any kind of sightseeking is also out the window. And then there is BP itself, which will probably face court-ordered payouts that could potentially even bankrup it. New safety statards will be intruduced. They are necessary after a disasater like this, to be sure, but they will also make drilling for oil much more expensive. How do companies usually compensate for ugly, unexpected cost spikes? If you answered "by firing people," give the man a gold star on the forehead! And then let's not forget the "knock-on effects..." If an entire fishing or beach community is destroyed, there will be less disposable income floating around the area and even those with totally unrelated jobs will feel the "ripple effects" as their customer base tightens its belt.

No volunteer troupe of kindly old blue-haired ladies with cut plastic miik-gallon bottles full of kerosene to help clean off the nasty oil from the poor dirtied birds and beached sea-turtles will come close to compensating for even a miniscule fragment of a percentage of the lost work and business in the area.

So all of the suffering and destruction resulting to nature and innocent wildlife is worth it to you as long as it produces some employment?

You can stimulate jobs in your own area, all by yourself by consuming motor oil too! And for EXTRA jobs also drink gasoline, and other solvents on a regular basis. Doing so will help stimulate some jobs at your local hospital. Post back with status of how your wonderful idea works out.
