I'm going to have ALOT of fun with this thread. I'm going to give facts and opinion. I hope you like it.

We all know America is a Christian nation according to statistics.

83% say god answers prayers, 57% support national prayer

National prayer? Where the hell are we, the Islamic Republic of Iran!?

Fewer than 4 in 10 believe in evolution

Gee Wilma I wonder how we came into existence. It was definitly from a guy and a gal who were created by dirt, a rib and a mystical being.

48% would not vote for an Atheist

Sure we can have a gay black catholic woman in office, but you show us an Atheist and we will say blasphemy!

Atheism leads to superstition, says Americans

“It’s the first effect of not believing in God that you lose your common sense, and can’t see things as they are.”

Okay.. We're the ones who lack common sense while you run around speaking to your hands and hoping for an imaginary being to come down and help you?

Christian Right

Opposition to
Divorce in general
Homosexuality in general
Same-sex marriage
Same-sex civil unions
Adoption of children by same-sex couples
Hate Crime legislation that includes homosexuals as a protected group
Acknowledged homosexuals as teachers, soldiers, pastors, or politicians
Some members of the Christian right, such as Exodus International, believe that homosexuals can be rehabilitated to heterosexuality by means of prayer, faith, or interaction with God and the Christian community. There is the growing idea of "loving the sinner, not the sin".[47]
Pornography
Premarital sex
Prostitution
Abortion
Use of Contraceptives
Birth Control (Catholics but not usually Protestants)
Emergency contraceptive methods
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
International cooperation
United Nations
Olympic Games
Strong opposition to strong international trade
Legalization of Marijuana
Social Welfare Legislation

Could you imagine how boring your weekend would be in a country run by people like this? I guarantee you suicide would skyrocket!

63% of Americans support Israel

It's okay go ahead and mass murder, steal and imprison innocent people, we'll defend you because Jesus says you are the chosen people.

If they are the chosen people by god(not all Israelis are bad) then god if pretty f**ked up.

Irreligion by country

76% in Estonia
55% in Netherlands
43% in France
26% in Canada
20% in USA

Any suprise that the USA is at the bottom? The big picture here is that most Americans believe in a supernatural being whether they are religious or not.

Atheism by country

77% in Sweden
66% in France
62% in United Kingdom
47% in Germany
25% in Canada
9% in USA

Wow! Only 9% compared to our 'sister country' United Kingdom at 62%. I guess they're all communists right?

Religious strongly support Republicans

Do we need anymore reason than this to wish them away?

I think we are seeing a very critical time in history where the radicals of all religions are starting to grow in numbers and power. At the same time the non-religious are growing in numbers too. Within the USA alone the Christian right wish to push us into a theocracy and push our technology back to the stone age. They don't want progress, tolerance or education.

Their support for Israel is sickening, a hope for a future where Jesus will rule again as the world dictator. How can you support freedom while waiting on a global authoritarian regime led by a self appointed dictator who will send all non-believers to hell and demand loyalty and praise from all people on earth. How can they say they support freedom when they openly want a dictatorship(theocracy)?

Hypocrits, all of them. I would rather take my chances in the supposed end of days then become one of them. I am a person who supports equality, freedom and democracy.

and 65% of England are awesome.
Seriously Why even post this crap, Do you just want to Pick fights with Christians?

Actually they say religion is on the decline as more people are becoming non-religious. But on the other side, more people are becoming hardline religious. I see a near future where there will be alot of problems when it comes to religion, even all out wars.

In the end, the religious will become a small minority clinging to their books and their prayers.

Thats fine if the religious become a Minority, as Christians, it is the road less traveled
If I'm wrong... I live a good life and People well remember that. but If the Atheist are wrong? I guess you are SOL.

I've never been polled.

It's funny but I don't know a single religious person in this day and age, and that's a great thing. I generally hate religious people but I like religion since it keeps the bottom parts of our society occupied and out of adult matters. The only thing that sucks is when the coked up rapist former President started playing to the morons and we got eight years of Jesusfried non-sense as national policy.

In all honesty, the only people I ever heard that wanted the rapture to start was the poster that started this thread and some guy on some 700 club or something when I was flipping channels. In the few seconds I listened to him, I don't remember him saying he wanted the rapture to start but that he was ready. That means the only person in favor of the rapture starting is the poster of this thread. That's pretty unique. Congratulations. If you get raptured, let us know what heaven is like. I'm willing to wait a lifetime.

Oh yes, Mr Religion is the Opium of the masses. Spoken like a true elitist.
I don't know how much pride I would have not knowing anybody who is at all religious...
I guess you don't get out far beyond whatever liberal agnostic think tank that you dwell.

The only people who want 'rapture' are the buffoons who scream "jesus loves me!' and only want the unlimited GOLD.

I dont think the OP qualifies in that dept.

You must deal with some very strange Christians.
Half of that stuff you list, my Christian friends don't have a problem with. Or at least not from your viewpoint.
A quick example is abortion / Planned Parenthood.
Did you know that 1 abortion gives you the same level of cancer risk as a lifetime of smoking? Do the Doctors or media talk about this? Not that I can see. Who are the main "victims" of abortions / Planned Parenthood? The lower income population.

Gayness:
1 out of 4 women & 1 out of 10 men are abused as children. Don't forget date rape & rape (same thing in my book). This causes psychological problems such as arrested development. In some cases is causes trauma bounding where you identify with the sex of the abuser, male-male, female-female, male-female, female-male, so you have gays, sex addicts, sluts, prostitutes & abusers. Many of the abusers call themselves of some religion or another but are of none really (even the Catholic priests). So, many lesbians do not trust men anymore and feel safer with women. The men equate male love with true love.

Nothing is black & white.

The true Christ consciousness is to love each other. Sister Bertha-better-then-you or the Deacon who is so hide-bound that different is wrong and we don't do it that way can't see the truth. Can an Atheist want the best for each individual? Is that not Christ-like?

If there is a rapture I am 100% sure I wont be 'saved' unless just being a good person counts, which in gods eyes apparently, it doesn't.

So you're saying all non-Christians (Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, etc., etc.) are going to go to Hell because they don't believe Christ was the messiah, or do you believe that only those who don't believe in any sort of God(s) will go to some form of a hell while all the religious people will go to the heaven their religion promises?

So there's no liberal christians? Kind of sounds like you have to adopt a certain constricting mindset not to allow new ideas in your head which is what the OP was alluding too. But yeah it's pretty sweet. You don't have to listen to psychobabble and you don't have anyone trying to tell you how to live. I did three years in a religious school, that was more than enough for me. But like I said, I love religion. It keeps morons occupied. Expect of course when they have to play My god has a bigger dick than your god, but that doesn't really phase me to see religious people knock each other off.

But my point was, America isn't a Jesused out nation despite what everyone wants you to believe. I rarely come across open Christians. Maybe down in the south is where all these people run around, but that's to be expected down there.

Well, my personal opinion is when you are talking religion, "fact" is completely thrown out the window. No religion has been proven as right therefore non are factual. It is all faith based. And as for polls go... need I really go there? They all depend on who is conducting said polls, what people are being polled, what areas are they being polled in, etc. There are just too many variables to take any polls seriously. I myself know I am not descended from f-ing monkeys. If so, why are there still monkeys? Maybe were are genetically similar from a much earlier state, but I will never claim I am descended from a damn monkey. Nor am I religious. I have never been polled, and neither has anyone I know. I don't even really know a lot of practicing Christians or religious people for that matter. Who the hell are these being polled? These polls can suck my fat sack. But as always, I will respect anyone's opinion on the matter. After all, just because I am not descended by monkeys, does not mean that there are others that are not.

I believe that you do need to believe in Christ to go to heaven and if you don't then you will go to hell. You can call me a racist or a moron but i believe what the bible says and it says that "No man can come to the Father but through Me." Also real Christianity is the only faith that requires total dependence on God, all other religions (and atheism is a religion whether you like it or not) are dependent on self more than God. You have to work for your salvation. In true Christianity God is the only thing that saves you it's nothing you can do but only what Christ did for you.

I get your point, a lot of People don't come out to tell you they are Christians... because they fear getting ripped on. I live in by a big Christian College...I have been hear for 10 years, So everybody hear is ultra religious.... I sometimes forget People are not as open in other parts of the country.

I don't like this topic, there is no popular answers ...I believe in Jesus Christ, What happens after Death is beyond me.
I don't believe in my heart that all paths lead to God... but God has offered a free pardon to those who believe. I would like to believe everybody well be saved, but that is also beyond me. the Scripture says the only way to the Father is through the Son... That is all I have to go on, and what I trust in.

In case you're wondering who is getting polled on all these stupid surveys...,it's usually not me. I've been called multiple times and so has one of my relatives about different topics. We always hang up. Well one time I didn't. Another time the female on the other end asked, are you sure you don't want to take this survey? You will represent over 100,000 people.

Really? I said no thanks. It's nice to know if I had an extreme point of view I could represent everyone in my section of the state. Using this reasoning, many surveys may be flawed and not have reasonable objective people being polled. Most of the reasonable people hung up on the survey or didn't answer the phone in the first place. As far as the rapture goes, God can do whatever God wants to do. Supposedly God created everything so if God wants to move things around, you go there, you over there, who is going to stop God? If you suddenly go to heaven but you didn't want to, tough luck.

My idea of the rapture were it to ever happen is that the news media would report millions of people were abducted by aliens. The survivors here on Earth would be counting their blessings that they were not taken and eaten by the aliens. The ones that were taken would rightfully be thought of as going to heaven. There might even be news leaks here on Earth about alien recipes for humans for those who got raptured. Maybe though, the alien recipes would be more logical than the rapture story. It would make you wonder.
