A UK mosque has made a formal complaint to UK underwear company Sloggi after what they deemed to be an 'inappropriate' advertisement was put up too close to a number of mosques. The advert in question is a rear view of four (lovely!) ladies, wearing Sloggi knickers (or panties if you are that way inclined) and high heeled shoes. It also has the slogan "It's string time."

Now, I'm certainly no prude, but WTF?

Firstly, this is England.

Secondly, these adverts are even closer in some instances to churches. Can you guess the number of complaints from the church? Well I'll tell you. It's none.

Things like this make my blood boil. You can see a picture of the advertisiment here www.sky.com... , and I think we'll all agree that it's just a cheeky (excuse the pun!) advert to celebrate summers arrival with the showing of a few, perfecly formed, bum's.

It's the epidemic of PC-thuggery that has the UK in it's grasp that allows things like this to happen.

Damn these people. If you don't like it then bugger off.

Im not sure i agree with you entirlely but i am worried about PC overkill.

The whole point of the British multicultural society is tolerance and intergration... but BOTH ways. Just as we shouldn't impose our values on Muslims (i.e. watching porn in their mosques for an extreme example) they shouldn't impose their values on us. This goes for any conflicting culture in the world, there has to be give and take, not simply the PC nonense of always siding with the minority.

I couldn't agree more with Benjj.

This is only a poster! I wouldn't mind betting there was a lot more female flesh on show in most parks and beaches throughout uk yesterday, none of which would be offensive to most of the population.

Unless the posters were deliberately placed right outside the mosque, the people attending will just have to grin and bear it. There is no compulsion for anyone to study such a poster if they don't like the content.

We have just spent the weekend celebrating D Day. I thought this was about everyone having freedom to live their lives as they wish, including the choice to look at posters or not!

Exactly iwouldificould!

I have said this often enough, and it really fit's the bill for this.

I am willing to accept an integrated society when I can turn up, unannounced, in Kabul, Delhi or Timbuktoo, and receive within weeks a free home, clothing, cash, schooling for kids, healthcare etc etc etc.

This is England after all. If you leave your own country, to practise essentially an 'alien' religion on our shores, you must accept that you have moved into a different culture. By accepting handouts with one hand, and writing complaints about our culture with the other they are making people hate them more and more.

If they just kept their heads down and once in a while appreciated and vocalised just how lucky and priveleged they feel about being let in to England in the first place, the whole place would be much more accepting.

God almighty this kind of thing gets my goat, just who the hell do these people think they are, and who in government is soo pc that they actually listen?????

I see someone is shooting from the lip. How about the rapping of young boys/girls by priests. I don't see that anywhere. I guess its better to have porn outside to satisfy a priests sexual urges rather than to hold it in.

Here is the image (think of it like church doesn't complain because they're too busy jacking off in front of the billboard stand) or it could prevent fellow christian church goers from being gay.

That's a hot picture. What's the big deal? If you don't like the poster, don't look at it. This PC nonsense is getting ridiculously out of hand. It's interesting to see that we here in the states aren't the only ones with these kind of problems.

Benjj you made an excellent point right here:

I couldn't agree with you more.

I see what benjj is getting at now...
I see these chineese people in Canada speaking chineese... how weird is that...I wouldn't have a problem with it, but they're a lot of them... No I'm not in Chinatown..

There's a scene in 25th hour, starring Edward Norton about this. I seriously recommend watching it. Ebert and Roeper gave it an A-.

There's also a 12 year old in California, USA protesting to retail stores that they're only type of clothing is skin tight lingerie. It's interesting to see how it turns out..

I can see why someone would have a problem with this because it's not just "near nudity", it's "near nudity" on a huge billboard. Not like t.v. where someone can turn it off if they don't want to see it. Maybe someone doesn't want their 5 year old seeing it every time they drive by. Let's face it, there is still a segment of society, call them prudish or shy or reserved, who don't think it's appropriate to be out in public with your ass hanging out, even if you're only on a billboard. No question they are magnificent looking... but is it right for everyone to have to see it?

BUT...

I wonder if there would have been any uproar if the girls had been wearing bras or bikini tops. I've seen underwear ads that got a lot of heat, but swimsuit ads that got nothing. Not one squeak of protest. Why is that? Has the Janet Jackson Breastacular Debacle proven that boobs are the real problem?
