spaceweather.com...

A geomagnetic storm is brewing. The sun's magnetic field near Earth has tipped south, opening a crack in Earth's magnetic defenses against the solar wind.

I don't know if this is anything, but here it is.

Fortunately, these cracks don't expose Earth's surface to the solar wind. Our atmosphere protects us, even when our magnetic field doesn't. The effects of solar storms are felt mainly in the high upper atmosphere and the region of space around Earth where satellites orbit.

G.mornin JB,
I'm not too worried just yet.

I'm a frequent flyer to the Spaceweather/Mag. site & thought the images where a little off today. Nice & rainy here so I can't can't feel a thing. Ha

Edit to add:

Now that is an awesome vid.

I believe they cover the sun with a disc in the middle so the black thing should be where the sun is.

well for the 2nd vid. I have no clue what I'm looking at.. is that the earth's magnetic field or that of the sun?

overall good find on this solar activity S&F

It's the Earths "Deflector Shield" sorta.
That's the 1st time I've seen a vid. like #2.
I'm thinking this will get alot more interesting as we get closer to the Solar Maximum. I know many on this site link the volcanoes, earthquakes.... to solar activity, that's the way I'm starting to lean.

Recent activity is nothing

This is a CME: LINK to Soho Mpg 1.8Meg

When a big enough CME heads at earth, you will see the camera get drown out by white sparkles.

I read the thread title and thought this would be about global warming or something like that, kind of a misleading title. Something about solar activity in the title would seem more appropriate.

It doesn't look like it's anything to worry about.
