The Global War on Terror looks like it is about to get much much bigger.

The US military is making preparations to go into Pakistan in some capacity. This is on top of the continued quiet military buildup in the Horn of Africa and the likely return of North Korea to the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

I have in the past advocated operations in Pakistan and I still advocate action, but we have to be very careful of the timing. If conflict breaks out on the Korean peninsula, it will require many assets and resources. We need to be prepared to reach out for assistance in both Pakistan and North Korea.

In the case of Pakistan, if the situation spirals downward, we need to make plans with India in some capacity. Just as we have reached out to China in regards to North Korea, we need to be ready to ask India to aid our efforts in Pakistan should the operation against the Taliban ignite collapse in Pakistan.

Timing in a way is everything. We have a massive military, but it is not unlimited. We need to have enough forces to handle other contingencies such as collapse in Mexico and in the event of an Israeli strike on Iran. If we fail to plan and prepare properly, it will result in disaster.

What in the hell is the US government thinking about, they created the war on terror and now we are facing deficits on wars that are draining our nations economy and nothing really has come out of this but destroying nations for geopolitical grab.

What in the heck is in Pakistan that US corporate warfare pimps may want.

There are probably numerous reason for this.

The Taliban represent a threat that must be dealt with and there are those who profit from war. One of the few industries, besides energy, that seems to be dooing well is defense.

I know some people will hate to hear this, but the war may be one of the factors keeping the economy from tanking.

No, really, The only reason we are still surviving with trillions in deficit is our ability to produce oil that is was is backing our dollar since the 70s, most of our weapons and warfare is made overseas, actually our wars are propping the production of oversea accounts in foreign countries.

It seems like a bailout for the corporate pimps that benefit from it.

But then again The only thing holding the nations economy is our ability to spend as consumers while increasing our personal debt.

Latest statistics from the credit bureau shows that Americans are still filling out their credits cards to keep up with latest gadgets.

What is left of our production is spend in the US the trade deficit shows the reality of that truth.

Then again we most thank China for financing from our government bailouts to our wars abroad.

Well when the united states gets destroyed eventually or collapses.....history will remember us who fought TWO wars for 10 years and probably up to 3 more very soon....which would be we went down fighting 5 enemys...pretty much all by ourselves.

Because....Nato hardly contributes ANYTHING.

America will not collapse, the reason is that as long as we are a oil producing country we will not collapse.

Not sure if I'd go that far. All the article says is that we will retaliate against the Pakistani Taliban if they are implicated in a successful terrorist attack in the U.S. From what you say, it sounds as if this would be a preemptive measure, which it is not.

This is definitely a significant development, however. Like you said, the situation with North Korea is a major complication.

The Energy industry does play its part. Its has helped parts of Texas and Louisiana economically in these times, but at the cost of Deepwater Horizon.

The Defense Industries for the most part are still in the US, primarliy in Texas. We buy some small arms from Belgium and Italy, but tanks, jets, ships, humvees, heavy weapons, and helicopters are made right here in the US. Most our ordnance, missiles and ammo are all made in the US.

The F-22 is built at American plants, employing people in Texas, California, and Georgia. The same plants produce C-130 cargo planes and C-5s. They are also currently working on the F-35 joint strike fighters.

The M1 Abrams is built at the Lima Army Tank Plant in Ohio. It has built over 7,000 tanks, more modern tanks than any nation on earth. It also produces a number of variants such as Wolverine bridge layers.

The V-22 Osprey is built in Texas.

The AH-64 Apache is built in Arizona, over 1,000 have been built so far.

There are plenty more examples.

China also isn't the only one investing in the country, Japan and the UK have both heavily invested.

The Top Ten as of March 2010: www.ustreas.gov...
1. China 895.2 billion
2. Japan 784.9 billion
3. UK 279.0 billion
4. OPEC 229.5 billion
5. Brazil 164.4 billion
6. Hong Kong 150.9 billion
7. Offshore Banks 148.3 billion
8. Taiwan 124.8 billion
9. Russia 120.1 billion
10. Luxembourg 84.6 billion

The EU as a whole: over 609 billion.
The British Commonwealth as a whole: over 447 billion

So we have plenty of different shareholders.

The retaliation would involve air power and special operations, that would constitute going into Pakistan. I didn't say anything about invading or occupying.

That's cos the wars are dumb, what little support you have is bullied or paid for, the USA won't benefit from the wars, individuals and corporations will, you let folk buy your government right in front of your eyes with little or no political resistance.

You misunderstood, US assemble its military vehicles in the US, but the parts are manufactured oversea, in two Government Accountability Office reports how vulnerable America is becoming to counterfeit parts coming from China and Japan.

Just because things are "assemble" in the US doesn't mean is manufactured in the US

Counterfeited Products Endangering U.S. Defense

US loses billions of dollars a year on parts that can not be used for servicing our military vehicles.

www.economyincrisis.org...

When it comes to weapons is the same thing, as the defense cuts take effect more and more parts for weapons are manufactured oversea.

Weapons makers look overseas as DoD cuts back

Neither did I. I was just taking issue with the fact that one of your statements implied the prospective U.S. military operation in Pakistan would be preemptive in nature.

You're one of my favorite posters, MikeboydUS. Don't let this get to you.

ARGH!!! We jst went through all this a few days ago on a thread on here. The US will only do something IF AND ONLY IF a terror event on US soil is traced back to Pakistan. Jeez!!!!!! This does not mean immenent action!!!!

Glad to know our contribution is appreciated! Talk about conceited and arrogant...

And Marg has a point about US military manufacturing. A significant portion of components (such as Abram's armour, optics and guns for example) for a variety of leading defence systems are designed and built by foreign companies, most significantly BAe which not only has substantial contracts of it's own, but owns many subsidiaries and significant stakes in some major US companies.

WHY is the US engaged in war in Afghanistan and now Pakistan ?

Pakistanis been attacking the Florida coastline or something ?

Afghanis holding up goods-trains in Texas ?

The US is sending Americans to KILL Afghanis and Pakistanis -- claiming they had something to do with 9/11 ?

And at the same time, voting to allow the erection of a muslim mosque adjacent to the 9/11 site ?

What'sthe word for that --- 'ridiculous' ? Hypocritical ? Insane ? Mental ? BS ?

No ? Just crank up the US national anthem and wave the stars and stripes and all questions about US actions just melt away in a flood of feel-good patriotism ?
