Okay... this is a bit off-topic-ish, but it does have to do with UFOs

I'm 35 years old. When I was a kid, the old vinyl record albums were still popularly used.

My folks had an album collection that numbered in the hundreds. I remember one of the records they had had artwork that I found mesmerizing. I remember pulling the record out just to look at it, not even hear the music. I will describe it:

In the background were mountains. I believe there was a gradient of colors that was the sky. In front of the mountains were several hovering ufos. I think they were very silvery, and each of them had a lumiscent blueish or purpleish glow. Other than the scene of the natural landscape with the ufos in the foreground, I don't remember many more details about it. The magenta/purple aura around each UFO does stand out in my mind, though...

When I was a kid, I remember just studying the cover of this album, intrigued. I didn't even know what UFOs really were, nor was I aware of all the controversy and speculation behind them. I just knew there was something familiar and interesting about them.

I guessed it was by the moody blues, but I haven't seen any album covers by them that match the description.

The sense that I was aware of these things even though I wasn't consciously or keenly aware of them plagues me to this day. Why would I find myself so drawn to those images? There was another band that had something similar, but that was Electric Light Orchestra. I thought the album covers of theirs were very interesting also.

I am wondering why? Am I recognizing something? It seems so familiar and recognizable, even though I haven't ever witnessed anything like it in my life (that I know)

Anyway, I don't expect anyone to know the answer to the deeper question, so my question to ATS is...

Does anyone out there know who the musical artist was that had this record which came out by 1985 at the latest?

Have you checked out Boston album covers? They have had UFOs on them.

Not Boston either. ELO, Boston ... easy guesses.

It's not them. The answer to this question is killing me...

Any recollection of the genre of music?

Maybe you can give a sketch of what you remember.

I don't think it was the band UFO. I just looked through all of their album art and didn't see anything that matched. www.allmusic.com is a great site for anything dealing with music and it may help you to narrow down your answer.

I’m thinking its either Boston or Journey.
I recall seeing the cover he is talking about, but I don’t recall the band.

If that is the cover he is describing, I hope he never has to give a description to a police sketch artist. Aside from mountains and UFOs, that cover was nothing like he described.

Cool cover though.

lol, memory is a funny thing, but I'm betting that is the cover..
I'm from that era and I dont remember any others even close.
Then again I am in Australia and we didn't get every album back then.
How times have changed

Go to:

earthstar.tripod.com...

Look for the piece called "The Blue Planet"

What I'm looking for is similar in color. Even the ufo looks close-ish.

What's missing is that there were several ufos, and they had a neon-sign like magenta aura around each of them.

All the above posts so far aren't it.

I have literally been looking for this album for years...

According to www.allmusic.com, this is the cover of the album by UFO - No Place To Run:

I think the YouTube vid just used a random UFO picture.

Still no luck finding it. I have been searching the web for hours looking through thousands of images that might fit the description.

Maybe, just maybe, it was a country or christian music band. (yuk!)

Good guesses. But those aren't it!

Just to recap: It isn't the band with the name "ufo", it isn't boston, e.l.o., journey, or the moody blues.

My big fear is that (I'm not sure why) but it might have actually been one of the southern artists (perhaps like crosby, stills & nash) or maybe even a christian artist at the time. If it is, I'm afraid it won't be known by enough people that someone who reads this post could answer my question.

This picture is VERY close, but no cigar:
