In a time of Peace, where Love and Compassion reign;
Time is complacent, and Cause is the factor we all do deign,
But as surely as we know the sun will rise again tomorrow
Our hearts, though glad and joyful, anticipate that dread of sorrow,
For in our hearts, we know the truth, and that today is because of past,
And Cause has Effect, and we know that Peace will never, ever, last.
For, as surely as there is justice, there is a time when justice is absent;
Perhaps just tardy, but with this lateness comes victims which were sent,
From the crime of confusion, the sin of despair, and Love gives way to Fear,
The light is extinguished, and vanity distinguished, and all we hold so Dear,
Gets twisted, and turned, so that victims may flourish, and with each breath,
We gasp, and exhale, we sputter and mutter, and stare in the eyes of death.
Oh what a strange and wondrous dilemma we face, we souls who do not die,
To leave that Garden of Peace, in search of knowledge, always asking why,
This is our game to keep us from boredom, always needing a game to play,
So we set up the rules, some have to win, some have to loose, it is the way;
The game is survival, and the rules say we die, and we ignore contradiction,
Forgetting we're immortal, we turn to mystics who preach their benediction.
In the absence of Love, there is only fear, and what we fear most is Power,
So we turn to the mystics who in turn demand we tithe and build a tower,
Where they may rule, we may toil, clinging to Fear, and harboring Hate,
Our emotions are facile, but as we awake, we turn to anger that won't abate,
We demand justice, we call for equality, we want, and want, and we want,
But like attracts like, and want brings more want, leaving us all so gaunt.
Enough is enough, we cry! Cry havoc, and let loose the dogs of war!
Cry freedom, cry justice, it is war and destruction we want more and more,
We do so in looking for Peace, but we Hate, and we Fear, looking for Peace,
Until we surrender, and loose our wars, signing treatises, so war will cease,
Peace at last! Let Love and Compassion come to us now and ever so fast,
But deep in our hearts, we know, this Peace, will never, ever, ever, last.
