Several countries permit people to be nude in public. Going to parks, riding trains, etc... So I have to ask all ATS members, what do you think?

Public nudity, for or against?

IMO I think as long as you aren't physically harming another person it's no one elses business of what you do.

Ahhh, no thanks. I really don't want to be seeing naked men hiking around, people with diseases/illnesses exposing their conditions, and so on. Let's have a measure of decency, and keep that for nudist colonies - that system works just fine.

The problems could make a list a page long! As some general points ...

- Lechery in an already semi-perverted (imo) culture
- People have to sit on buses, in restaurants, etc : hygeine issues
- More reasons to cause division/strife/hatred in society
- Indecency which would lead to even greater immorality
- Increase in swinger lifestyles, prostitution
- Greater chance of infection from air pollutants
- Distortion of human relationships to awkward imbalances
- Mosquitoes/Blackflies/Horseflies would have a feast

That's a horrible idea! (But flagged for the thought-provoking idea)!

For example I cite the beer commercial where 2 american guys are sat on a wall looking at to attractive chicks in bikinis. One says to the other

"Wow, you know in europe it's legal to be topless on the beach"

The it cuts to 2 Spanish guys sat on the beach, surrounded by fat ugly women, one stand up and strips off her bikini top.

The recoil in horror

One says to the other,

"Did you know in America it is Illegal to go topless on the beach!"

hehehe

I guess it depends on your perspective, But from what I personally feel, there is nothing to be ashamed of there, (probly) and people who find the human body offensive, are a product of an outdated moral observance to modesty.

But nor am I saying that people should go running down the street butt naked in the depths of winter.

But if it is appropriate, i.e. beach setting, or specialist camps etc. then it shouldn't be prohibited.

Why is it men in the summer, are allowed to walk down the street bare chested but if a woman does it, it is obscene!??? both have nipples, and some men have breasts, and hairy ones!!, I know which I would rather see walking down the street. its not sexual it aesthetics.

Clothes were probably originally invented to protect our bodies from the elements, briars, cold, burning sun, bugs and anything else you can think of. Then someone invented the word indecent and said you have to wear them or you'll be indecent.

Nudity just wouldn't work in every day life would it?

I imagine people only wish to walk around nude because there is a law that says they can't.

I'd rather have a tad of protection myself but to each his/her on.

I don't wish to snag my penis on a briar.

I disagree that nudity would lead to more indecency and more swingers. I think if everyone were nude then people would become desensitized to nudity. I also don't necessarily see anything wrong with the swinger lifestyle. But I don't see the connection of how public nudity would increase the swinger lifestyle.

However I agree with the other stuff you said about hygiene.

I am a big girl. I like to go to the beach and to pools when it's hot in the summer like everyone else and I have the right to do so. If people don't like seeing the fat person on the beach then don't look. I hate it when people act as if seeing one fat person throughout the course of their day is going to ruin their whole day.

Could you imagine passing a group of senior citizens on a daytrip?

Or being stuck in a checkout queue infront of a creepy naked guy?

No thanks!

Worryingly not only could I imagine it, I did imagine it. Even more worrying is that fact that I enjoyed what I saw :shk:

File me under "don't care".

If people want to expose their flesh to the world, it doesn't matter to me. I wear clothes primarly due to sociological ideals, although I'd always choose to wear at least a loincloth and footwear.

I'm not above using nudity as a weapon.

I really don't care. As with the TV and other visual input, I'm fairly adept at looking where I want to, and looking away from things that are distasteful.

I saw some naked people once at a hippie love in. What's the big deal?

Well...there were a few big deals.

Was that YOU???

I think there should be places (certain beaches, certain parks, etc) where nudity is legal. That way people could avoid it if they wanted to and people who wanted to feel the breeze where we normally don't, could.

In other words, I'm pro-choice.

So if I wear my American flag man-thong out in public does that count? Because I do that anyways. I'm totally for this. The Todd appreciates beauty in all ways.

It has been my experience that other than children, which no one needs to see nude anyway, the ones you really don't want to see nude, are the ones who are the first to disrobe.

Children do this out of innocence, all others can and most times do have other motives.

I will say no, because the vast majority of people I see at work or on the street, I Really Don't want to see nude. Myself included.

Since 2/3 of Americans are overweight and 1/4 are obese, my vote is firmly for "against".

Not without a screening process.
