On the OP's linked video look at 2.06 and 5.33 they are replaying the same scene. Do they not have enough footage of workers, so they have to repeat things?

Back from another hard day at work. Note the time.

This is pathetic. I hope Nungesser and Crew blow up everyone's phones over this issue. Able bodied men and women want to help and are willing to put themselves in harms way to do it. It has to be done period - So lets do it already.

I expect or at least hope that Louisiana media outlets don't give up on this until everyone knows about it or until somebody finally does something about it.

I hear ya my friend! I am and everyone else down here is extremely frustrated with BP and the government. It appears that the Gulf Coast cannot get a break from anything: Corruption, Hurricanes, and now the WORST oil spill in US history. We even have a BP protest in Jackson square coming up. I will not be there, but it should be HUGE. This is honestly a huge mess that could have been corrected in the first week or two.

Yes let us all make sure this is a HUGE protest. I say this because when the SPP was held in Otawa Canada they had like 1800 protesters show up. When I went to cover the SPP protest in New Orleans, I heard about the 20 some odd protesters that were run ff earlier by NOPD.

They refer to you as the "city that care forgot" and they are taking it seriously. Time to get involved New Orleans or this type of behavior is never going to stop until the only thing left, if you are lucky, will be the French Quarter and some casinos.

It's hard to have a sense of humor in all of this but, it would be funny if a hurricane sucked up all the oil and deposited it in D.C. Maybe along the way picked up some feathers to go along with the downpour. Well back to being pissed off. Good job Myth big fan of your threads.

Of course they're going to claim "conspiracy theorists" are "crazy".

Because they know, like you do, that those within the "conspiracy theory" genre know what is going on, due to having knowledge of odd facts.

Whether the Deep Horizon was an accident or an "accident", it is nonetheless, an opportunity for the idiots, both in BP and Washington D.C.

Politicians and those who pay them, Big Industry, get even richer off of these events.

Like I mentioned previously, BP is stalling, doing half-hearted efforts, to try and pressure Obama in to paying them, virtually ripping us off even more, to clean up a mess which is wholeheartedly their responsibility.

They do not deserve one Federal penny to pay for it, it should come out of their pockets completely, but due to the processes of Government, there will be federal funding released, in order to "off-set" costs.

Glad to hear you ordered that book, TheMythLives, you will like it.

It will enlighten you to many areas of just how the Presidency works.

Like I said, they will take advantage of this situation, in order to force a Congressional mandate.

The goal is and always has been to push us all into "eco-friendly" cars.

Shame on you President Obama!

How can you look at your own children, and know in your heart that you sold your soul to the devil (BP) and that you are not doing everything you can do to clean this mess up.

Maybe you don't care because you feel that you and your family are so privileged, and that you can take your family anywhere in the world to live away from destruction.

You will live with this shame for the rest of your life. You have turned your back on these people in the gulf. You have turned your back on the death and destruction taking place in OUR ocean.

What is that saying the military has? Never leave a fallen comrade?

Did any of you see the bit where guys in a boat were leaned forward in a low boat trying to wipe runny oil off the reeds with paper towels? It was pathetic and pointless. Can you imagine the smell of that oil? They looked like they didn't know what was going on, what to do.

As mentioned by posters before me I find it suspicious that they want to renew cap and trade because of this disaster. These people are monsters, destroying whole ecosystems on purpose just to make an excuse for cap and trade. Human life is worthless to these who are in power and that is frightening.

Thanks once again for a well-researched and thought-provoking thread, Myth!

I had occasion many many years ago to be involved in oil spill response, and while proceedures and systems have certainly changed in that time, I fail to understand why dispersants were and are being used by BP as the primary mitigation of oil.

Back in the day, the surface oil was herded with (usually sorbent) booms -- multiple layers of same whenever possible -- and then skimmers were used to grab the majority of the "controlled" oil. This was done time and time again, and after the operations had recovered all the crude they could, THEN dispersants were used. On occasion, dispersants were used in tandem with oil recovery operations as a mitigation between the spill site and the coast -- primarly thin sheen oil.

I believe that BP is more concerned with mitigating the appearance of oil rather than cleaning up/capturing the oil itself. I think they're creating miles of "mousse" that is more difficult to perceive, and yes, it will eventually break down somewhat, but coming ashore in that form probably makes the job even more difficult.

I was also somewhat surprised, as I was reading your thread, to hear CNN on TV discussing the possibility that the workers were brought it solely as a photo op. The 12-second sound bite with video does seem to depict folks that were inexperienced in this task. Surprising to see MSM picking this up.

Well done!

AWESOME! You made me google this and I found it here is some more from CNN yesterday:

Good evening again from Louisiana, where efforts to stop the BP oil leak from gushing into the Gulf continue. We will have the latest on that, but we begin with the president's visit and allegations tonight that BP faked it had for President Obama and the cameras, putting on what one local lawmaker is calling a dog and pony show Now, if true, some other words might apply: a sham, a crock, an insult to the people down here who need help, real help, not to mention an attempt, if the allegations are true, to B.S. local leaders, Gulf state governors, and the president of the United States.
CNN

Here is the transcript:

COOPER: So, we have now heard from this councilman who said that they think BP shipped in 300 to 400 kind of fake workers to be there for the photo-op while the president was there.

CARVILLE: Right.

COOPER: Does that surprise you?

CARVILLE: No, not at all. It would be very consistent with BP's behavior. They lie about everything and they fake everything, so I'm not surprised at all. And, Anderson... (CROSSTALK)

COOPER: BP, by the way, says they did not do that.

CARVILLE: Right. OK. But I don't believe them. But it doesn't -- it really doesn't matter, because the president did say the right things today. And I think that's a real positive step in the right direction, saying that he's not going to abandon Louisiana, and that he's committed to it, and he's committed beyond the time the cameras are here. And I think that's important. It doesn't matter -- yes, this was a staged event. It was -- I don't -- I kind of figured that when they were going to Grand Isle, but the important thing is, is, he said the right thing, and hopefully he follows through with it. And, if he does, that's great.
CNN

His attitude is unbelievable and his lack of empathy is disturbing...

James Carville admits he believes the cleanup crew was staged, but is saying it doesn't matter the reason they came, as long as they did indeed come and are working. Whether they remain is the question.

They remained after the President left he said, but whether they are still working this long holiday weekend is another matter. They should have crews doing clean up 24-7.

That equipment they are getting from the Netherlands attaches to ships, and they can run them around the clock. I don't know what the hold up is in receiving those. We need to send our military over there to pick them up and have them in the water tomorrow. It could be done.

I believe the only reason BP isn't encouraging locals to assist with clean-up is fear of more litigation due to medical problems they might develop post-clean up.

Great thread. I'm sorry you guys can smell the oil in New Orleans. I hope you will continue to keep us posted on other personal observations.

I live on the Gulf Coast also and my heart is breaking because of this. The way this is being handled is beyond belief. I don't think people really understand because they have not been here but our beaches are the whitest and most beautiful in the world.

The seafood industry in this area is like a religion. The fact that this may all be ruined because our government could give a damn is a little unnerving.

I'm in disbelief that someone just used our environmental disaster as the backdrop for their photo op and just left without doing anything.

Scary when A President of the United States spends more time trying to pass Government Health Care no one wants.Than in Coordinating and staying on top of what now is the biggest environmental disaster in the history of the United States.Makes me think this guy is more about CONTROL of the people than HELPING people in any significant way...

Is it me or did anyone else get the idea from Obama's speech the help coming to the gulf region is via the federal government? There's no way tax payers should be held responsible for this. BP should pay every single penny due to those who are harmed and the entire clean-up bill, NOT US!

If the government wasn't behind BP, they should be fining them every day that they don't clean up this stupid mess.
