Well at least it will give the other 19 member states something to talk about, share ideas on how to screw their tax payers.

Personally I think they should have held the meeting in Afganistan, thats got half the worlds armies there to protect them and they are already paid for...

The money won't go anywhere but in folks pockets. This session is next month. They will be unable to build any infrastructure in a month and most of the heavy gear they might buy are built on order, like planes.

If they were going to put Canadians to work to build some quality infrastructure, you might have a point, but I doubt that will happen. At a minimum, the folks should demand an accounting of what the money will go to.

Top Ten Reasons to Spend 1 Billion on G8/G20

10. Different locations for both the G8 and the G20-> almost doubles the cost.

9. Toronto... in a virtually non secure location-> RCMP get some good OT.

8. Higher cost than th Olympics is expected-> Gave BC 1 Bill- have to be fair.

7. If they would of had it in some remote location(like before in the rockies) it would of been easily under 100Mill- already done that though.

6. Government spending is a national sport.

5. If they held it in Saskatchewan they would have to block of protesters/reporters for 100Km to keep Officials out of sight...

4. Tim Hortons shares will double with all the RCMP working OT.

3. Officials are hoping the US dollar will crash since they are paying in American...

2. Canadians will pay for this by purchasing an extra case of Beer next week(taxes)

1. It could be worse..... we could of given it to the banks.......

Yeah, I really don't care. We have pissed away more on worse, subs and helicopters come to mind, gun registry, Quebec Referendum. Maybe the point behind it is show the rest of the world that while there might be a recession going on in other places it is business as usual in the the Great White North.

This is absolutely, positively the most insane thing that this government has done to date. Hands down.

A BILLION DOLLARS. To protect a bunch of thieving, lying worthless POS.

They have to be kidding? They must be. Harper has got to be out of his mind. Seriously. There is no other explanation. We can't actually be paying a BILLION dollars to protect these clowns.

And this is to protect the people in charge who have screwed up this whole world while they make their plans to tax the whole world more and screw it up even more.

I say pay $1 million for their security and let the chips fall where they may!

It'd be easier to replace them than $999 million!

The saddest thing is, that BILLION dollars will not be giving A PENNY to those who have businesses in the area. Lost business for a good two weeks because of all the changes going on for security. Never mind the thought of a riot breaking out and windows getting smashed and their things wrecked and stolen.
Residents of the area have to go through security checkpoints just to go home, to work, to the stores (if any will be open) They have to REGISTER just to be able to do that. If they aren't, they can't go where they need to. WTF?

Thousands of Jews flocked to the Ricoh Coliseum Sunday morning to listen to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before hitting the streets of Toronto for a solidarity walk.

About 10,000 people are expected to participate in the 42nd annual Walk With Israel.

It's the first time since 1978 that an Israeli prime minister has been on hand to address Toronto's Jewish community, estimated to be about 200,000.

The United Jewish Appeal's Walk With Israel begins on CNE grounds, at the arena, some time before noon.

The throng will make its way through city streets along a seven-kilometre route.

The walk raises money for educational and social welfare projects in Israel.

This year proceeds will benefit Ethiopian Israelis living in Bat Yam.

Um, yeah. Netanyahu walks the streets of TO. Bet that security was tight..... and didn't cost much. Hell maybe he brought his own?

You bet he brought his own.

You have your choice of CSIS/RCMP/TO Anti Terror unit or Israeli SF/ PM protection detail. Who you taking? I know who i want cover my backside. We may have provided crowd control, they most likely provided there own security.

I would have found $100 million shocking, but $1 billion? I'd like to see how that budget breaks down, that's incredible. Especially considering the $12 million or so spent elsewhere,

Looks like the gov. is feeling cocky over this...

calgary.ctv.ca...

The public safety minister is standing behind the whopping $1.1 billion security bill for the upcoming G8 and G20 summits, and says the auditor general is free to review the expenditures after world leaders go home.

Toews scoffed at critics who say the bill is considerably higher than the $30 million London spent when it hosted the G20 summit in April 2009, or the $18 million spent by Pittsburgh in September 2009.

He called those estimates "nonsense," and said the numbers reflect each city's costs, not the federal government's bill.

"What we're comparing with is the national costs of running the G8 and the G20, and I've never seen any indication of what the national costs were for the United States or Great Britain," Toews said.

Your damn right the AG better audit this.

Sheila Fraser, the Auditor General, cannot get Members of Parliament and Senators to open their expense books for proper review.

WTH makes you think she can get hold of a billion $'s in receipts for these upcoming collective wastes of time?

OMG! That is insane, what is the Canadian Government thinking?

885 million / 12.4 million = 71.4

They are spending 71.4 times more than the U.S. did.

What are they going to do? Fly every elite directly into the conference from their hotel suites on V-22 Ospreys escorted by multiple Stealth Fighters? Develop hologram technology and construct replicas of the G-8/20 summits to take attention away from the real ones?

You guys are pissed, eh?

People who have read Stevie Cameron's On the Take, about the glory days of kleptocracy under former conservative Prime Minister Brian (Byron Muldoon) Mulroney, will have no trouble understanding how a billion dollars got paid for a twenty million dollar fandango in Toronto ("the good", lol). But still, it would be nice to know the details.

Please Ms. Cameron, if you can hear me from the "broad sunlit uplands" of honest journalism, do a piece on the G-20 money pit in Toronto. They are ramming it to us. We need a champion to ram it back at them.

Please, please, please, please, please . . . on my knees. Please!

Just another ZMO scam like giving their buddies real estate properties from money created out of thin air.

It cost less to secure the Olympics in Vancouver than the G20 mobsters.

Personaly, they themselves should pick up the tab or stay at home and video conference on their private ionosphere wireless networks.

They're useless morons, all of them.

It's just like the us armies 500 dollar hammers. 1 dollar for the hammer to be legally billed and 499 dollars into some fat zionist pocket.
