As of early Thursday morning, neither government nor BP officials had declared the effort a success yet, pending the completion of the cementing and sealing of the well.

So far they still only say that on their video it APPEARS that only mud is now being expelled from the hole. While this would be incredible news I will wait until the flow is stopped entirely before getting happy.

I live on the Treasure Coast of Florida and we are all praying that this works.

From what we have gathered it looks like the main pipe that exits out of the BOP is still spewing lots of material. Whether its all mud or a mixture of mud and oil is unknown at this point.

Secondly the calls from truly retarded people about why was this not done on day one. It takes time get a good picture of what is going on and then to bring in those resources. It does not happen overnight.

Third, if they can keep the mud flowing and gaining ground against the upstream of oil, eventually the mud will over take the well and get the pressure to 0. Then they can fill a 100 meters of concrete into the well to plug it up.

At this point there is only two things that we should be looking for.

1) Is the mud actually beating back the oil.

2) Making sure the BOP well head does not break or collapse. If that happens we are very and truly screwed.

As I understand it, the reason that they didn't jump on this solution right away was because of the risk. It was/is very possible that if it fails the sitation will becomae far worse and will significantly diminish other possible options to contain it. They wanted to attempt less risky options first that wouldn't potentially worsen the leak. And as Alexxis said it takes a good deal of time to work out the engineering and get all the necessary equipment and supplies in place.

So was this accomplished now because of the Maddow piece. Is it the fact that corporate media has caught onto their act that they now have a solution? Something about this being exactly the same as three decades ago and shouts of open up your checkbook ringing in their thieving ears?
