Hopefully they don't make it here and make Toronto another LA. Canadians are very nice and forgiving but we cannot take a load of illegals and support them, we are having a hard time supporting the legals. We pay alot of taxes already.

So tell me.

What'll make it another LA? More Mexicans? Isn't that a bit...

racist?

As defined by www.dictionary.com, racism is 'a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.'

A bigot, however, is 'one who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.' hamptonroads.com...

The clue: They are different words.

With your disturbed use of the English language I wonder how you graduated high school, or did you?

Clearly I was referring to the use of the BIGOT. And you overlooked that just to take a dig. /shame shame

Yes but YOUR source said that there were other meanings for "bigot". You just decided to get on your chariot and call "foul". Poor debate skills.

Nah, TO is nothing like LA. Been to both. TO is a NY wannabe.

Also, I am not the bigot here. I have never said anything racist about any particular race. Your history speaks volumes.

Exactly whose history are you refering to? Canadians?

Lets not make this a tit for tat, I clearly said in the post what I was referring to. And from the many responses the poster I was referring to has made on this boards and his use of the word Bigot to justify racist.

The high school, very mature. I guess you don't like criticism much.

Was referring to the history of the poster I was responding to.

I have family and friends in Canada. I travel to Kitchener often. I really enjoy Canada apart from their practice of Medicine. I have heard about the recent openings in the private sector for Physicians, Specialists. I might make the move up there once it gets more established.

Ok, understood. Although we will agree to disagree on the medicine thing. The private sector health care I have not heard of yet here, at least not where I am

Please don't equate Canada with Kitchener. The place is a dump, no offense. Hell, most of the Golden Horseshoe doesn't equate with the rest of the country.

Edit to add: You COULD equate Kitchener with my home town of Dartmouth NS. It's a dump too.

Anyhoot, and trying to bring this back to the article in the OP ...

It states:

Most Canadians agree that immigration reform is necessary and overdue.

And although this statement is the premise of the entire editorial it doesn't seem to provide a source to establish this fact.

I haven't been able to confirm this independently ... perhaps someone who has can provide the source validating this claim.

And the Canadian comments in this thread also do nothing for the validity of his claim lol

If Kitchener is considered a dump, then you guys have better standards for what is called a Dump. Try coming to the 9th ward here in NOLA or just google map it with satellite imagery.

I have complimented Canada on several aspects throughout the thread, but they are ignored for the benefit of reactionary posts.

All in all I enjoy Canada, maybe with the population demand that is needed up there this will turn out to be the win win situation for all those involved.

The Canadian comments is what this was started for, and with the exception of those 2 that were against it. Many are in support of this and I applaud your welcoming to such parties. Again a win win for all those involved.

It all does really come down to what was said earlier by someone. As close as we are to each other we are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT countries. From our belief systems, politics, socail values, sports, food, beer, etc and the list goes on. Us aguing this is essentially no different than a Christian and a Muslim arguing religion, its just not gonna sync up

Hm, I always kind of liked Dartmouth...

So your an Fundy boy eh?

I agree that Kitchener or any really small town in Canada isn't really the best overview of our culture. You'd have to live in Vancouver, or Halifax, TO, that sort of thing.

While I enjoy the diversity of the cities, I also like the smaller communities. They provide a pretty good picture of the national psyche as well though not painted in such a riot of colour. Same goes for the US...I'll be in the NE around 4th of July and I'm really looking forward to traveling through the villages and towns festooned with bunting.

And I will say to the Americans on this thread that we aren't in near as big a hole as you guys, so there is still employment on the lower end of the scale that is available to unskilled labour. "They're taking our jobs" isn't a battlecry up here. We save that for the jobs moved offshore.

Oh yeah...St John's...I love St. John's and everybody should pay it a visit sometime in their lives.

I love me some Newfie!

I have to agree though, if I could, I would move to NF, I absolutely love that culture.

It is IMO the NICEST place in Canada.
