Yes. and if you read my posts you will see the thread is total BS twisted by the OP so he can continue his "Obama is God" posts and rudely attack anyone with opposing views.

I think a mod should close and take action to stop this kind of thread...

How does this thread have anything to do w/ Obama looking like a god? You are really on a vendetta these days, which says much more about yourself than anything else. Man, to suggest that this is a thread that needs mod. intervention is patently absurd. You spend a decent amount of time on ATS, and that notion, if truly held, is borderline incoherent.

Best,
SN

P.S. And yeah, if someone calls me a nazi and a parasite, I will defend myself vigorously. I don't get what nipping at my heels gets you.

ok - i am not on a vendetta , or ` nipping at your heels ` - so why dont you answer my question ?

its at the bottom of page 3

but to re itterate :

if he returns , having commanded a military failure in iraq / afghanistan - what makes you think he has any hope of being elected POTUS

because the first question in any debate is going to be on the lines of :

general petreaus , you commanded a military failure in iraq / afhganistan , why should the electrorate give you command of the country ?

Hey,

I wasn't referring to you w/ that comment.

Anyway, as is clearly stated in the OP, I don't think Massa is a credible source. Look at my title, it is purely neutral and descriptive of the situation. However, the fact that a recent congressman is making this allegation is clearly thread-worthy. I mean if politico and esquire have articles about it, I deem it ATS worthy. (I mean it's not a thread on there being 2 suns in the sky as definitive proof of niburu, or flatly stating obama is a muslim anti-christ or whatever, but come on).

Okay, about your point. Yeah, that does make some sense, being an unsuccessful war leader isn't, on the surface, the best advertisement for the presidency, lol. However, if the war efforts go well, it also makes Obama look good. I think Massa is alleging that Petreaus will say the it is Obama's fault that the war effort failed (i.e. rejecting sound military advice, colluding w/ the enemy, who knows).

Best,
SN

The main problem I see with this theory is that Patraeus would own any failure in the wars as much, if not more, than Obama. He's the commander, after all. Obama is a consummate politician and would eat Patraeus alive in a campaign, I would think so I doubt such a plan could work. He'd know just how to play up the angle I described, of Patraeus owning these failures, not Obama. Giving Patraeus the Republican nomination would be a trap for the Republicans, he'd lose. Running for elected office is far, far different than being a successful general, and Patraeus would have to run against one of the true all-time masters of that game.

All that being said, I don't think this plan is real. At present, we are well along our draw-down in Iraq, and it's proceeding apace. Afghanistan is a far different matter, and is going to continue for sometime.

(Side item: looked up Rex 84 described by another in a post above - that's some very disturbing stuff!)

Oh dear this thread really got away from me. First off what I said in my initial post was not in any way saying that this story is not news worthy or idiotic but that the former-congressman himself is the clown in all of this, not the OP.

I agree with the OP that he used sound sources before posting here. Esquire is a great source and Politico is okay. I'd take either of them lightyears before I accepted something posted on say World Net Daily even though it seems half of the threads on this board are lifted straight off of WND's insanity.

As for virgom129, are you alright there mate? It seems you come a little unhinged whenever someone supports President Obama. I don't know what you have so against the man personally but wow. Now I am also a big supporter of President Obama, and if I were an American I'd surely have voted from him and would vote for his re-election from what I've seen so far. This is not to say he has been perfect or godly in my eyes, there are things I'd like to see him do or do differently, but he's been quite good so far from my perspective.

If I may be allowed to answer the question you posed to the OP, and don't worry about any "shrink BS" (seriously though virgom are you that gone, psychology is a well respected science man!) since I am a journalist myself.

So here's what I think your president has done for you, the people of the United States that I would agree with:

1) Lowered taxes substantially on most of the working class

2) Pulled the United States economy back from the brink of total collapse, admittedly President W. Bush gets some credit for this too as the fix started under his term

3) Set a deadline for withdrawing combat troops from Iraq (this August)

4) Is making a dedicated effort to actually win in Afghanistan

5) Finally began working under the understanding that both Israel and Palestine have fault in the current Intifada

6) Began a high-speed rail network project in the United States

7) Finally got healthcare reform passed

8) Began the process of repairing international image and relations after the Bush Administration

9) Ended "cowboy diplomacy" for sane rational action again

10) Has begun energy initiatives in order to lessen your nation's dependence on Middle-Eastern oil

11) Stopped the fearmongering hate

12) A bit of a bonus one I guess since it is not finished yet, he is currently working to overturn Don't Ask Don't Tell in the military.

So there you have it, my views, I guess as a liberal British socialist as to the good that has come from President Obama to you, the people of the United States.

Oh and as for what I think President Obama should do, not do or do differently than he has:

1) Pass a new bill that takes the intelligence sharing portions of the USAPATRIOT act, but gets rid of all the abuses of civil rights, then void the USAPATRIOT act.

2) Conduct major reforms and overhauls of the entire intelligence system in the United States so that it's not so completely ineffective.

3) Conduct an educational campaign for small-business owners to show them how to properly file for incorporation and other ways to lower their tax burden.

4) Tax the hell out of capital gains over $250,000 a year.

5) Wall Street Reform

6) Re-institute the policy that savings banks cannot also be investment firms.

7) Instruct the Justice Department to go gangbusters on any financial wrongdoing they find in banks, arrest offenders, charge them and put them in prison. Enough of this Congressional Inquiry bs, if they broke the law, go get em.

8) Nationalize Halliburton

9) Set up a plan for the re-privatization of General Motors

10) Put some pressure on Germany and the EU to solve the Greece crisis before it crashes us all.

11) Actually make a socialized health care system

12) Find and kill Osama, if he is dead, find out what happened to him.

Since your links dispute rather than prove Massa's claims, I am surprised that you would even start a discussion about this [giving Massa another 15 minutes of fame].

The last I heard, General David Petraeus was not even registered to vote. He is so un-political.

Although, I could see how trying to work with one administration (pick practically any one in the last two centuries from either party) could convince a leader like General David Petraeus to pick the other one.

Um, this is especially thread-worthy if my links show that the allegations are unsubstantiated ('denying ignorance' and all).

Regardless, most rational people would not question the thread-worthiness of a recently departed congressman saying he has proof of Cheney and Petreaus planning a coup. Look at my neutral non-sensationalistic heading to this thread:

Former Congressman: General Petraeus and Dick Cheney Treasonously Conspiring to Overthrow Obama

Furthermore, if this situation was reversed, with a conservative saying the same about a conservative administration, ATS would be holding him up as a hero and saying that the media is making him look insane. Pfft, look at how Beck pumped up Massa when he thought he would be useful (ultimately making Beck look like an idiot for hyping that story the way he did). Hmm, wait, maybe that's why you all are so touchy about Massa.

Anyway, as for the '15 minutes of fame,' the frequency with which Orly Taitz, Glen Beck, and numerous other charlatans that do nothing other than make stupid predictions that never come true and then rinse and repeat show that ATS is like 70% about giving people who don't deserve 'fame' way more attention than they deserve. Why this existence of this thread would be disparaged is beyond the pail.

Best,
SN

As long as one no longer opines about the constitution this, and the constitution that, I guess that's a position to hold.

So, who are you parroting? Rush usually calls Obama a communist, Beck constantly calls him a Marxist or a Maoist, but he also has Nazi Tourette's, which is weird, as the Nazi's first move was to exterminate the socialists. Then again, Ron Paul says you all are idiots, as he explained that Obama is a corporatist. Of course, I thought Reverend Wright belies Obama's beliefs, so that sorta contradicts the Muslim thing.
Best,
SN

P.S. Thanks for making my avatar especially relevant!
