Thai government maintains state of emergency
The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) had been demanding the immediate dissolution of parliament and an early election.
Abhisit had previously proposed an election in November but withdrew the offer after his reconciliation plan collapsed. During his weekly television
address yesterday, Abhisit said: “At the moment, no one can tell when is the best time.” In effect, the election, which Abhisit is likely to lose,
has been delayed indefinitely.
So, protestors cry out for the democratic process against a "democratic" regime (that has not held an election since a coup in 2007) and is
repressed by the military. A bloody crackdown ensuses and then the government has the audacity to claim that because of the security risk posed by the
protestors elections must be further delayed. Business as usual I see...
Edited for typos.... whoops.
