Dozens ill amid smell in Rockhampton

A ROTTEN egg smell has made 22 people ill, stopped traffic and closed scores of businesses in the central Queensland city of Rockhampton.

Paramedics have treated 22 people for headaches, nausea and vomiting.

Well a rotten egg smell is usually Hydrogen sulfide and the common sources are natural gas (added for safety so people can smell it) and also from petrochemical processing, but of course can occur pretty much anywhere you get elemental sulfur.

The thing I find curious about this story is many of these smells have no apaprent origin. Here are just a few other ATS threads about similar smells.
