UN camp for Gaza children torched

news.bbc.co.uk

Representatives of the Hamas government condemned the attack and said those responsible would be found.

Unrwa chief John Ging said the agency "would not be intimidated by such attacks".

He pledged the summer camp would take place as planned.

Mr Ging said there was "no doubt in my mind that it is vandalism linked to a certain degree of extremism. It is an attack on the happiness of children."

In this particular attack it seems the target was not not to inflect as many casualatieas as possible. It was to destroy the camp that was set up for children. The camp and its equipment, such as plastic pools, was completely destroyed. So one must thing the motive behind the attack was so the children do not attend the camp and have an enjoyable time during the summer?

It seems there is never an opportunity missed to interfere with the childhood of a kid from Gaza.

He pledged the summer camp would take place as planned

Thats the spirit !

The camp, due to open next month,is one of dozens of beach facilities set up by the UN offering a summer programme of arts, sport and other activities for some quarter of a milllion children in the Gaza Strip.

So it seems they got at just one of the camps - all is not lost.

No all is not lost. But the point is what message is being sent here? They were not targeting Israel solders, or political facilities. Not the police departments, not causing general chaos. It was a summer camp for kids. So what is the motive, what is the goal? It looks to be more then random violence but why?

No group has claimed the overnight raid, but observers suspect it is the work of Islamic extremists opposed to such camps for boys and girls.

A possibility- for sure .

umbra,
Thanks for posting.
That no one has claimed responsibility, and that Hamas is trying to keep things quiet does really point to any clear motive. This still seems to be to well carried out to be just vandalism.

"Warriors of Allah" declare " Islamic emirate" in Gaza.

The group - Jund Ansar Allah (Warriors of God) apparently comprises defectors from Hamas and other Gazan Islamic groups , who now believe that Hamas are too soft when dealing with Israel. You can see a similar effect of sorts in Northern Ireland - with groups splintering once a greater level of (for want of a better word) diplomacy is required . e.g Real I.R.A Continuity I.R.A etc.

These groups threaten Hamas` power base - they won`t be tolerated . That is of course if they had anything to do with it.

In other news, the nazis burned down part of the Warsaw jewish ghetto situated in Gaza.

History repeat itself. No one did anything to help the jews against the nazis, and this time no one does anything to help the palestinians against the state of Israel.

History repeats itself and every time the innocent civilians suffer.

Anyway this is either an accident or the act of some piece of filth extremist Israeli settlers or false-flag by Hamas, or anti-UN people... the list is long.

Anyway the ones who did this are scum.

I can see where they might be a good possibility for the ones who did this, but still I did not see an update on claiming responsibility yet. Also like you said Hamas will deal with it also since it threatens there power. That would be one reason why they will not claim responsibility.

Something else i found online .

Two days before the incident, the previously unknown "The Free of the Homeland" group issued a statement criticizing the camp's organizer, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), for "teaching schoolgirls fitness, dancing and immorality."

JPost.com

Previously unknown ... emmmmm !

Gaza's Hamas rulers have set up rival camps. Some Hamas leaders have also railed against UN camps.
