I live in the central UK and Military aviation is one of my interests but I cannot say I,ve noticed anything unusual on this side of the Atlantic other than preparing for the Airshow season.
Last year just before Gulf War 2 got under way USAF Heavy lifters were coming over every 15/20 minutes night and day but at the moment its just scheduled stuff.
I will let you know if things get busy

You were probaly seeing the C-17 Globemaster III from either Charleston, South Carolina or from McChord Air Force Base, Washington. They are probably heading to Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany because that is a major stop for the C-17, which is the main heavy lifter in the USAF.

Yes C 17's and C 141's
Starlifters make a distinctive engine noise , turbo whine ,sounds great

Nothing compared to seeing a B-52 flying low overhead - seen this once was an amazing sight
