SNIPPET:
A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks.

SNIPPET:
U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., and U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., both said U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson brought up a worst-case scenario as he pushed for the Wall Street bailout in September. Paulson, former Goldman Sachs CEO, said that might even require a declaration of martial law, the two noted.

Well at least we know that they are planning this kind of stuff. It is important to meet this with a sort of empathetic understanding of the circumstances. In te event of a catastrophic economic collapse, all hell would break loose.

But those of us who are rightly suspicious of government must assume that te cohesion of society is secondary to the real goals of those in control. We can also safely assume that not all of the military would go along with this forever, some would wind up on the other end of the struggle. In fact, many would.
