Police have said there are already security problems with some politicians, upon whom serious attacks have been threatened.

UK Police intelligence reports have already pointed to a concern on an attack on leader David Cameron, after he decided to dispense with many of his personal-protection officers and has insisted on walking through crowds and traveling without a motorcycle escort.

Senior MI5 security sources have privately said they are worried high-profile individual politicians are at risk of being singled out for a shooting or stabbing attack.

They are especially worried that attacks might be carried out by UK-born Muslim fanatics and have put the threat assessment at severe.

Wonder how many will take that security detail option now. Doing so does in fact give in to what the terrorists are trying to accomplish. To accept the security detail shows fear. Do you take care of you, or do you stand by the cause and not let the fear factor work for the extremists? Tough decision if I may say. Have to give Cameron credit though, he has that "Pffft, I ain't skured" mentality.

Being an MP is a very dangerous job... there will be people who oppose you as an MP so your life would always be at risk of some kind of attack from another person... being so high profile i think i'd have to have some type of security... especially where i live... you only have to look at what's been happening to the 'cartoonist' in sweden to see that any extremist would try anything to get to you...

I can sort of understand being out and about as you want your privacy... i'd hate it if everytime i wanted a quiet time away i'd have to have loads of security with me day and night!!

This "fearing" is blatantly being conducted to create "a climate of fear". Why? Because it's the flaming obvious.
An Islamic radical could attack you when your making your morning cup of tea, or when your on the toilet, or even when your doing the opposite (i.e. listening to the evening "news"). It could, happen; so maybe we should all think about it, and see how scared the possibilities of our imagination can make us?

This way, we should all be more accepting of further anti-terrorist legislation (that is needed) to make us even less of a democracy. At the very least we should sympathise more with the slimey men & women who make up our "hung parliament".

To accept the security detail shows fear. Do you take care of you, or do you stand by the cause and not let the fear factor work for the extremists? Tough decision if I may say.

Sorry UberL33t but with "thinking" like the above, I can't help but think you are "falling head over heals" into the propaganda behind the article.

Have to give Cameron credit though, he has that "Pffft, I ain't skured" mentality.
Yeah isn't he so brave? **** I'm so lucky to have him as my prime minister.

Seriously: My only worry is that the police are effectively using the Mass Media to give ideas to terrorists. This makes sense, why use the Intelligence Services to launch attacks against our own people, when there are plenty of genuine mad people willing to do it for you?
The thing about mad people; though, is that you often need to give them ideas because the "right sorts" don't have very many of their own. The fact the government (through the police) is effectively advertising methods of terrorism shows to my mind that are thinking about how much an attack would unite our country, around our government, at a time of unstable politics.

PREDICTION...
I'm sure within the next month, at least one journalist will have written an article detailing how they e.g. Got a job as e.g. a cleaner, in a nuclear enrichment facility, without any qualifications, or any proper security checks, and was even able to take weapons grade Plutonium, home with them. They will write a long article telling you exactly the documents you needed to photo copy, the sort of questions you may expect to be asked.
They'll no doubt conclude by saying that although security at our nuclear sites is "worrying" we also need to worry about terrorists buying it on the Internet, and how websiteY is rumoured to have sold the stuff in the recent past!
The article will be printed millions of times, and within a week different versions of it will have appeared in all major newspapers of Britain. Problem is they've done this in the past, and terrorists never seem to take the hint. Or maybe they just don't read our newspapers? Is there something "they" know, that "we" don't?
Kinda scary isn't it? Ah; if only people would "unite" around our government against the common threat!
