Last year I saw something very interesting in this nation, I saw a large segment of the population go completely bat [snip] insane. The Left gained huge majorities in both the House and the Senate, a Democrat was put into the White House, all of a sudden the conservative population went ballistic!

Seemingly overnight, this nation went from a people who did this:

(The crowd chears and sings "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" as George W. Bush leaves Washington DC)

to THIS!

(Oblivious Tea Party Protester explains exactly why conservatives hate Obama.)

FOX News went from the laughingstock of cable news channels to this sites most trusted news source. (Even though most of what is presented here from FOX News is actually from their opinion programs and not from the actual news broadcasts.)

Glenn Beck went from lunatic moron, to exalted leader of freedom.

Rush Limbaugh went from drugged up conman to the voice of average conservatives.

Sarah Palin went from brain dead MILF, to Tea Party spokesperson and icon of the movement.

Have people actually completely lost their minds or is there something in the water? What has happened to this country?

We have people who if you mention the words gun control in a sentence they will immediately kneel down in front of a picture of Thomas Jefferson and scream at the top of their lungs the Second Amendment word for word. But at the exact same time if a Census taker dares to come within a half a mile of their house they are ready to gun the poor person down and feed them to their dogs.

We have people that sit here and tell us that they want to kick everyone off of welfare and at the same exact time they threaten to riot if their unemployment is cut off.

We have people here who actually are advocating and wanting a military coup in this country! Or they want a civil war, or they want a revolution. If you ask them, they can't really tell you who they would target except politicians. They don't know what to do afterwords. Like when the next army over decides that we are in such a weakened state that they can invade. All they know is that they are angry now and they want blood.

We have people here that when George Bush was in office were telling us that we need to invade Iran, yet, now, they complain that Obama sent more troops into Afghanistan. (you all said he lied.)

(You all were the ones that lied, not Obama)

Is this all sinking in yet?

Then we come to the Birthers. These people have tipped the scale from insanity to obsessed.

Without any proof whatsoever, they are convinced that Obama was born in Kenya or for some other reason isn't actually qualified to be president, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

JANE! STOP THIS CRAZY THING!

I'm not surprised you're confused. You don't seem to have a good grasp on the realities of a world that is always changing. Perhaps your liberal-heavy viewpoints have skewed your view of reality.

What I am most confused about is why the lunatic fringe is now mainstream. Why middle of the road seems to be a lost idea. Where independent, meant independent not Ultra-Über-Conservative.

Well I suppose people's political beliefs change.. for instance, not that long ago you didn't use to parrot Democratic party lines.. but now you do in every thread I see you in..

But most people I think were desperate for "change" .. and saw Obama as the best choice. Not all Tea-Party people are Republicans, many are Independents, some are Democrats, some are members of other parties..

I'm a Libertarian.. I voted Democrat for Congress. I didn't vote for a single republican last election.

People are MAD .. they have every right to be MAD .. this isn't some foreign war where it doesn't effect us, or some issue outside our borders.. this is people being put out of work, then seeing Congress give their money away while they struggle to fill their tanks.

SOME people who loose everything would rather put blind faith into the Government. Believe me, as I am in doubt aware you probably know.. it's very easy to be Socialist when you're poor.

But SOME people realize the theft, the injustice, the criminal acts.. and they take that frustration out on the Government.

It's not specifically Democrats that people are mad at, or Obama it's figure head..

It's the Federal Government in general.. It has failed, miserably.

Ever seen the movie Blazing Saddles? Well, this is sort of a real life modern version of it. But it would be incredibly politically incorrect to have Rush Limbaugh screaming from the top of the Washington Monument, "No Dagnabit! I said the President's a *loud clapping of the Liberty Bell*!!!"

So instead they want to pretend that the last eight years prior to the Obama Administration never happened (sorta like that season of Dallas, it was all just a dream/nightmare), and that everything in the world is Obama's fault!

Meanwhile, this group of Archie Bunker wannabes are just dragging the Republican Party down into the mudpit with them... and make the entire nation look like a bunch of ignorant savages to the rest of the world

I mean does it really surprise anyone that there would be a LARGE group of WHITE PEOPLE foaming at the mouth about a man of color being the Leader of the Free World??? It hasn't been that long since cross burnings and lynchings were commonplace when dealing with uppity *loud clapping of the Liberty Bell*

maybe, like most people on ats we see the flaw in the federal government, and judging by most the threads being about the us government taking over the world and hiding facts, the last thing we would like to see is a HUGE expansion of federal government. having both houses the judicial branch and the executive branch under one party allows sweeping change fast to expand government larger then we have ever seen before. The government proved its self incompetent and the only thing worse then an incompetent government is a HUGE incompetent government

You mean like the first six years of the Bush Administration when the Fed grew at an ALARMING rate???

I do so love revisionist history!

Exactly like the first years of the Bush Administration.

Generally speaking, Congress is always a miserable failure.. while Presidents can cling to high approval rating, even Bush had some high ones till about 03' .. Congress always, always ALWAYS finds it's self under 20%..

People don't like our system of Government.. because it doesn't serve them.. it serves the Military Industrial Complex, foreign countries, banks, special interest groups, the biggest financial donors, and so forth..

They only give a damn about us on Election day, then put us in the back of their minds.

"Meanwhile, this group of Archie Bunker wannabes are just dragging the Republican Party down into the mudpit with them..."

So it had nothing to do with the GOP dear leaders lying 2 wars and 1 million people dead?.. or making torture, spying, kidnapping official US policy? some republicans still like bush, but it's a safe bet most regular people of the world despise every fiber of his being.

..and what makes a dumb person on youtube a member of the "tea party", or a "birther".. or whatever silly moniker?.. when did idiots stop being idiots and start belonging to some group? MOST voters ultimately choose the GOP or DNC, so.. both parties own most idiots, people so dense or programed.. they don't fire failures, they reward & recycle them expecting something to "change".

Why is the so called lunatic fringe mainstream?.. not so.. what you probably consider "lunatic" is a growing number of people who seek their own info after realizing the GOP, DNC and MSM have been historically FOS liars who spin (propagandize) the "news", and manipulate everything from financial calamity to wars.. officials & corporate media rate zero un-checked credibility.. no reason exists to believe obama, anyone in congress other than Ron Paul, or bush, or CNN/FOX et al.. they're transparently laughable to more people every day.

Mainstream information no longer comes from govt or news sources, the dynamic is changing.. bushs & obamas "official" bullfeces being parroted by Wolf or Cooper isn't just not believed much, but aggressively challenged and easily refuted... 'the man' is failing to control how we form our opinions, his grip on our "mainstream" reality slipping.. there are signs everywhere, look at all the power "they" are grabbing, it's not because they feel safe & secure.

Don't forget Bush and the republican congress voted to give the rich a $1.2 trillion in tax breaks, thereby blowing what surplus of cash America had. Voted for two wars, spent 800 billion on medicare drug plan, gave 700 billion to big banks....

...And NOW they want to talk about being fiscally conservative.

It's like your wife going out and running up the credit card all weekend, then b*tching when you need gas on Monday to get to work.

Well if Obama didn't lie, what did he mean when he said he would end lobbying? Truth is it isn't just Obama or Bush, it is all the politicians up in D.C. right now. The TPM is working to reform the Republican party (or so it seems), so when we get a brand new RNC and it fails, we can see if it is actually about Obama or the feds in general. Seeing as how they are strongly against many Republicans right now, it is a safe bet that they won't stop after this administration. Independent in your mind is middle of the road, Independent in my mind is voting for a candidate's beliefs, not a party.

It's crazy. I've noticed the insanity creeping in. I hear Rush Limbaugh belching out his talking points and just imagine people slurping them up like oysters on the half shell. It's insanity, for sure.

I think the economy has a lot to do with it. People are looking for someone to blame. And of course, those who align themselves with the GOP or conservative ideal are overwhelmingly blaming Obama.

I remember calling GWB a fascist and reading over the 14 signs of Fascism with fear in my heart. I remember the comparisons to Hitler. I thought he was going to be the end of this great country. I was wrong. So, I can understand where the craziness is coming from. But they're wrong, too.

There are a lot of extremes on ATS, so I try to remember that. They'll try to turn every thread into an anti-Obama thread, no matter what the subject is.
They have links to their favorite YouTube videos that PROVE their positions. But remember that not everyone on the street is shouting for Obama's birth certificate or blaming him for the oil spill. That's just a small vocal minority.

Yeah, it's crazy, but sometimes I gotta just step back, shake my head and chuckle.

Its a terminal pandemic of Obama Derangement Syndrome and its affected the entirety of conservatives in the U.S. The only cure for it is for another white male Republican to be placed into the White House, but even then the effects will linger and simply metastasize again when another Democrat becomes President of the USA. There is nothing you, I, or anybody else can do to get through to these people.

My only suggestion is to point and laugh.

I think what a lot of people are confused about is a majority of people with conservative values are not Republicans. What I'm reading here are people stuck on the notion that the only 2 political parties you can be a member of are the Democrats or the Republicans. That mis-notion is why the country is where it is today. Both parties are 2 sides of the same coin, and both share the blame equally. Professional wrestling is less scripted than the fight between the Democrats and the Republicans. Wake up people, and we might have a chance of ending this madness!

the left was just as crazy during the bush years....see Iraq war protest videos.

It just proves the notion of the "idiot masses" in this country.

Americans...generally...ARE stupid. We're not intelligent, not creators, not inventors, not visionaries.

We're consumers.

We live our fat assed lives out on TV, hoping for this, and praying for that, thinking God is some sort of wishing well for our upmost desires, no matter how anti-religious they may be to our own personal religions....

America is a joke. We have become fat and lazy.

it's still a great country, there are still great people, but the MAJORITY are not great, and give the rest of us a bad name.

Moronic Masses
Idiot masses

Call it what you will....just another name for fat assed americans who take their Queues from the likes of Glen Beck and Rachel Madow

your point about anti federalism is what i think most americans are upset about. we have had two parties that have expanded the federal government in two very diffrent ways. the democrats main objectives comming into office were not bank reform and repealing the patriot act, the main objectives were healthcare, in other words putting the feds incharge of one sixth of the economy. the minimalist liberatarian philosophies are starting to look more appealing

That part of you mentioning the two parties furthering federalism in their own ways.

Neither party EVER repeals the power of the previous party's encroachment of freedom and liberty.

They just continue on in their own way. The Repubs pass legislation for their purpose, the Dems pass legislation for theirs.

Neither party ever wants less power.

Time to let the whole federal power structure dissolve back to the Constitution.

Seize the Fed and abolish it. End the wars and protect this country. Close our borders. All mega corps broken up. Our inclusion in the UN comes to a halt. Drug war abolished. Repeal the myriad of 600,000+ statutes. Enforce LAW and not color of LAW. Tell the world we are no longer the police of the world. Tell them to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

Give us freedom, or give us death.
