I felt the war in Afghanistan was justified due to the fact the 9/11 attackers trained there and a terrorist organization essentially ran the country. I feel by attacking we sent a clear message that terrorism is an act of war and would not be tolerated..... Unfortunately it seems as though we started a holy war as opposed to a war against tyrany

Trading 40 lives for millions is not logical, especially when kim is on his last legs and there could be a peaceful way in the future to resolve the conflict between the two countries. I don't want millions of koreans dead over 40 dead soldiers, to suggest that sort of death toll is worth it is ridiculous beyond all measure imo.

And truth, the taliban were not terrorists, they were extremists and the remnants of the movement America supported in the 80's. There is no proof linking Osama to 9/11 either, he gave a few interviews after the attacks and denied any involvement. Check the daily ummat from 28th September 2001...for a terrorist organization to pull of such a huge attack, seems strange he wouldn't be taking credit for it. There is alot of proof he died in an airstrike in December 2001 Pakistan. If you want to point fingers at who carried out the attacks look at the Saudi's(biggest supporters of Islamic terrorism in the world) and the Pakistani ISI.

Ok so Americans need a war they can watch on TV from a safe distance.. chant and cheer about "winning", while millions of Koreans die? That doesn't sound very nice.

You hit the nail right on the head! Thats EXACTLY what Americans want. They want to wear their flag tshirts, sit around drinking budwiesers, HOO RAAA'ing at the shock and awe footage on CNN being reassured they are the greatest country on Earth. And if you don't agree with them, YOUR NEXT!!!

Um, not just the people in the US my old mate.

There are plenty of us here in the UK want to sit and watch CNN, FOX and SKY shock & awe footage too you know!

Can't wait!

I could not disagree more. The North Koreans committed an act of war and the South needs to respond. The US has no dog in this hunt (for at least should have none), but the notion you espouse, which is reciprocal warfare is the reason we have these bloody conflicts that last for decades.

(italics mine)

Actually, the US has a treaty of mutual defense with the Republic of Korea (1953, Panmunjom). (Just as we had an agreement for the missile defense of Poland and the Czech Republic.)

Does anyone on ATS really believe that Barack Obama would engage in war with another state.

It took him days to decide to attack three teenage pirates, months to add to forces already engaged against a bunch of rag-tag terrorists.

We will let our friends face this on their own.

The Koreans are a proud and self-reliant people, and will respond against the North. China will then take our friends out of the picture as they adhere to there mutual-support agreement with the People's Republic.

I doubt we have the resources to fund or fight a war anymore, anyway, given that our funding comes from China.

We are at the hands of a pathetic excuse for "leadership," much less Hope and Change. Obama would rather attack one of our own states, Arizona, than a weak, despotic, delusional Communist aggressor.

Look what you've done to my Country!

Those who don't learn from history...

Does this remind anyone of the "Gulf of Tonkin" non incident?.. just like in a purely historical context 9/11 resembles Hitlers Reichstag fire.. low budget excuses inflated into "FEAR FEAR FEAR!!!", ultimately found to be mostly BS.

hillary rates zero credibility on her own merits, but combined with the history of govt aggression and dear leader obamas epic scam of an administration.. only the gullible can buy into the 'official' story.

Government investigations are nothing but one sided allegations, unfortunately there's no open un-biased world court, or other arena, where evidence can be fairly challenged for credibility & relevance... if there was, bush & his neo-clown cabal would have been humiliated by saddams defense team... over 1 million people might still be alive.

Back in 1964 some party lackey just like hillery was forcefully belching out dis-information about N. Vietnam s "New Aggression" that was dutifully parroted by the MSM.. and is was all feces.... how many lies, wars and corpses will it take before the masses figure out GOP & DNC dear leaders like these so called people, hillery & bushbama, must be challenged to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt... in the interests of humanity?

"American Planes Hit North Vietnam After Second Attack on Our Destroyers; Move Taken to Halt New Aggression", announced a Washington Post headline on Aug. 5, 1964.

That same day, the front page of the New York Times reported: "President Johnson has ordered retaliatory action against gunboats and 'certain supporting facilities in North Vietnam' after renewed attacks against American destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin."

But there was no "second attack" by North Vietnam — no "renewed attacks against American destroyers." By reporting official claims as absolute truths, American journalism opened the floodgates for the bloody Vietnam War. A pattern took hold: continuous government lies passed on by pliant mass media...leading to over 50,000 American deaths and millions of Vietnamese casualties."
