I'll try and establish some sense of comparison using local brew (read: real beer). A double-blind drunk experiment, if you will. They don't call this long weekend the "May 2-4" fer nuthin'.

Dreamkidd.....

Thank you for sending me the larger file of the photo.

Now you need to start thinking about how you will get the negative analysed.

If I was you, I would contact Springer (ATS owner) & entrust it to him for analysis.

Kind regards

Yes, i am going to do my very best. I like the shot and am keen to get it blown up if i can get this negative.

Spoke to the lady who has the photo today, she in noway as excited as me but expressed interest at finding the negative. Shes 30, has a kid and this picture has been kicking around their family for years hence her subsequent lack of excitement. Im a bit more of a geek when it comes to this sort of stuff, have sent her a link to this forum which she knows nothing about, im sure once she sees dudes analyzing beer cars and saying that its photoshopped, like me she will be further motivated to get the neg.

Im getting the photo as seen next week regardless so will take some of those angle shots as expressed by other users on here.

I also asked her what those weird dots/puncture marks are in the top right near the object, she said it was pinned on the wall in her family home for many years after they spotted the object in the photo. Her Mum is the blonde lady in the pic. I again asked her about the date of the image and she said it was taken when she was really young. Both of us being 30 now, it is in fact from the mid 80;s as i have expressed.

She is going to speak to her mum also re; addresses and location / exact date it was taken. She said she thinks it was at her Mum's cousins house.

Again, semi aloof i know but there is a picture to ponder regardless.

Really wanting those negatives myself. She also said, when you look at the photo in person, you can actually see a light coming out of the bottom of the craft. Im not sure if you guys can see it on the version i posted but upon zoom there is defiantly a dis-coloration apparent on the base of the object.

Thanks again for the feedback and comments everyone for or against, its the banter that counts and your scrutiny down to beer can mechanics amazes me! this is the reason i love this website.

More to come.

BTW, i have seen Springer on here before.

Im in New Zealand though. Were you suggesting i send it too him??

If i get the negative, im going to be really selective with who i get to develop it. I will probably take my handy cam to the shop and film the process and shop assistant so there is no funny business. Dont want to be another statistic of the 'we lost it' or 'went missing' scenario.

Let me know your thoughts.

Dreamkidd.....

I figured it must have been "pinned on a wall" or similar.....

.....that explains the serious fading on the right half of the photo.

Kind regards

I know you did but he actually replaced my object with something else, check it out!! - its quite funny!! Like a shower head or something.

The thing is that even i look at the image and my brain tells me its fake, its just oo clear and the fact that the sky around the object has aged so badly in the shot and has gone a kind of peach colour does not help.

Makes me think that the object has been subject to the same wear and is perhaps dulled also. Its just so perfectly there it looks placed but as expressed in my original story, she told me about this pic over a decade ago and she is not that sort of person anyways, neither am i. I love UFOlogy and would do nothing to see it disregarded further by creating a storm in a teacup. This is legit as i believe it too be and i will do all i can to get to the bottom of it. Regardless of whatever it is, it is something that is unexplained that will only ultimately be proven with the re-development from a negative.

Thanks again mate.

Anyone else is welcome to U2U me and i will send them the orig scan she sent me.

I know you are in NZ, but I wasn't going to mention that until you did.

Once again.....if I was you I would U2U Springer & ask for his advice.....I have already U2U'd him to let him know about this in case you do that.

If a decision is made by you & Springer that you need to send the negative to him, I can arrange registered transport of the negative if that is deemed helpful (I send a lot of expensive items between the USA & NZ).

Kind regards

Yeah, she said it had been on display for years in her family home pinned on the wall.

Pretty cool.

Yeah, that sounds fine but would you suggest i get it copied here first then send too him?

I need to get the bloody thing first, im itching like MF to get it, really want to see this image revived in full glory and larger with todays technology.

If thats a shower head i wanna know what brand that sucker is after all this!!

When that negative is in my possession i will hit you up re; this secure transport method you make mention of.

Thanks again.

Dreamkidd.....

I wouldn't do anything at all until you get some advice.

Pending such advice, another alternative could be for me to hand-carry the negative to someone like Bill Chalker:

www.theozfiles.com...

theozfiles.blogspot.com...

I have to see him soon in Sydney soon & I will probably be in NZ prior to that (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch).

Anyway.....I guess we'll be able to figure something out.

Cheers mate

Cool Photo. I was just going to suggest take it to a real photographer with own hand developing lab. Pay the extra bucks and never let the neg out of your site.

I had a photo of a ghost standing next to me at the sydney opera house. Really spooky, on advice, sent it to a specialist.. neg was misplaced..

Only reason I say this is you can not replace the neg. Something like this is prime, "misplacement Item"

Dear Valued Client
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret........

The thing that interested me in this photo is it looks just like the guy that lived next to me circa 1987 in South Pasadena. The clothes ring true to me, as I used to wear those awesome-looking tanktops back then too.

As for the beer cans, there's nothing there to indicate they're not from the mid-80s. I drank a LOT of Bud over 20 years or so (until my hepatologist told me to cut it out). The "captive" flip-tops date from the early 80s, possibly the late 70s.

What I'm more interested in, and I don't think anyone mentioned it yet, is what the image is on the glass on the table. Can someone do a little photo enhancement on that?

Yuefo.....

I've been looking at that for a while.

I don't think there are reflections on the table area.

I think those diffuse, angled areas are marks from tape (or similar) that has been used on the photo.

I think the area in front of the guys board shorts is a glass or a stand of some description.....it's hard to tell exactly what that is.

If you don't think I'm refering to the same thing as you are, can you please provide more description of that to which you alluding? (many thanks)

That chair she is setting on is exactly like the kind I have. It came from a set that was given to me from my inlaws who bought it back around 1986. I know the apx. date because it was bought when they bought their cottage.

No, the glass or cup is in between the beer cans. And the more I look at it, the more I think it could be Aladdin. If it is Aladdin, then the photo was taken no later than 1992, when the film came out.
