So if someone is working with a fake Social Security number, do you think they get a tax refund in the Spring? They're probably paying more into the system than you.

You forget to mention the stuff they take out of the system. Like the food stamps they collect because of their anchor babies, the subsidized housing they are allowed to live in, look beyond what they pay in..look to what they take out. The latter is much more expensive.

Also for every job the are employed in, the American Citizen stays unemployed. This means the American Citizen now has to go on Food Stamps and also apply for Unemployment Benefits...it all stacks up.

Farmers who hire illegals would never hire an American anyway. What happens when an American works his first grueling ten hour shift for less money than you can live on? He goes home with his back thrown out and applies for comp the next day.

As for the people who keep mentioning the immigration policy of nations like China and Iran, I have to ask... Why would we want to be more like these countries in any way? These are places that people are fleeing from every day. We have a problem with our country being so awesome that people are actually sneaking in!

We need to work on ways to make legal immigration more accessible, not institute draconian policies that are going to create a climate of oppression.

Or 80% of the 5 people that were asked, backed it?

Polls are genuinely corrupt from the get-go...and you hear that, verbatim, from these same republicans, when polls show that most Americans think the GOP is nothing but a bunch of bigoted old, out of date, white guys.

Ah, Maybe some Pew Research Center Numbers might help the thought sink in better. Obama use to tout Pew's impeccable polling standard during his election campaign.

I find it amusing that those supporting this law are the very same people who cry about the PATRIOT Act and other civil liberties violations. I don't know how you can't see that this is the baby step toward eroding your 4th amendment rights, as well as re-energizing the push toward REAL ID.

I hope more people boycott Arizona. I, for one, am. This law is just a New World Order tool.

I find it amusing that a few people (such as yourself) compare this law which was ALREADY ON THE BOOKS since the inception of our Constitution and amended in the 1980's....TO the Patriot Act and the multiple oversteps of Constitutional law under Bush/Obama.

The laws you speak of which Bush enacted were NEW and vaguely defined ones set by new agencies, under a guise of a new 'fear', penalties for basically political THOUGHT crimes, dug DEEP into constitutional rights, backed by EXECUTIVE ORDER, UNREAD BY CONGRESS, and broadly defines basically everyone on this website as potential "enemy combatants".

And you want to compare that to SB 1070? Unreal.

Eroding my 4th Amendment rights by enforcing a century + old law?

Please tell us all...what in the SB 1070 Bill is 'different' than existing laws? What 'changed"? Provide a source if you can.

Push toward a Real I.D.? So that means give up on enforcing this because people like you think it's a doorway for "Teh New Werld Order"???? The REAL I.D. crap was pushed since 2007...they would figure out a way to get it sparked regardless. If it wasn't under immigration, it would be under some other 'threat'.

And what about the fact that Illegal Immigration ITSELF is a tool of Elites?

It's amazing, someone actually has the BALLS to combat this issue head on, and then people cry "New World Order...microchips....implants....new world order is coming for us"....

Guess you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Nobody's RIGHTS are taken away any more with SB 1070. There's nothing there that goes beyond the scope and into 4th Amendment violations that hasn't been there before with almost every CRIMINAL or ILLEGAL act.

How in the world does a setting US president invite and allow a leader of a foreign nation and stand in solidarity with this foreign leader against one of the 50 states? Defending citizens of another country against one of our states!

This thing is way out of hand...even if there are diffrences.

AZ should say the CA boycott is costing us X amount of money. Then add some money and raise the CA electric bill by that much. Better yet, but not as realistic, if the AZ study said that illeagal imigration is costing the state what was it...2.1 billion, then add that to the CA bill. If they like illeagal imigration, they can pay for it...literally

I urge all the dissenters of the Arizona SB 1070 Bill to read it, in it's entirety, in it's amended forms, before making any "New World Order" or "Nazi Papers" conclusions.

Do your civic duty and READ before you cry foul. Denying ignorance is also about becoming informed about what laws our illustrious masters in Government WRITE.

Read...digest....form an opinion based on that....NOT the other way around.

You know the country has failed when its own citizens refuse to do even this!!

I will be honest and admit that when I first heard about this I thought it was racist and Nazi-esque... but reading it will open your eyes for sure.

Having come full circle and seeing how the government officials are playing this... it could be seen as an attempt at silencing states's rights... of course this was done during the Civil War also but apparently every now and then they need to remind us that states just don't know what's good for them?

-------------------

If I was a politician in Arizona not taking my orders from someone else I would DEMAND that the power to LA be cut off... until the mayor can actually prove he read the bill and can defend his position intelligently (which you really can't at all when you realize this AZ law is a Federal Law too).

What's worse is people are going to support Californians who do not see that this can only be political posturing... those states depend on each other for commerce and nothing is going to happen. If it actually would, it'd be horrible for both sides. There is no winner in a situation like this, a moral winner or otherwise.

Both sides know this and that's why nothing happens.

Another diversionary topic to give the general populace more reasons to argue with themselves ... and like puppets we dance.

That's what I think as I read thru these posts.

They are falling right in line with what is expected of them. Get them to fight with each other. Then we will have to step in and make more rules so they feel safe again. Blah Blah, haven't we seen this show before?
Reruns are so boring.

My understanding from the letter was that:

1) As AZ owns the power, they could "renegotiate terms" -- meaning, it will cost you a lot more; and

2) If CA was so sincere about a boycott, then California should be boycotting power, not just boycotting things convenient for them. This is matter of California's principles actually being put to the test.

I did not read (even between the lines) that AZ was going to "cut off CA's power." I do not think they would and I do not think congress would allow it. I believe what they were suggesting is that

a) if CA doesn't do without the power voluntarily, the mayor's a posturing bozo, and
b) if CA actually 'takes action' to 'harm AZ's economy' then AZ will be happy to recoup those losses via an increase in the price of power.

This is so just the tiny tip of the vast iceberg with O. Don't even get people started.

I'm still "agog" that the Attorney General who went in national media and said he was going to file a lawsuit against Arizona THEN admitted he hadn't even read the damn law. WHY was this man employed more than 3 hours later?!?

Polls are genuinely corrupt from the get-go...

This is true. Polling done by any but a few high priced legit agencies (which is a long process) is statistically void.

and you hear that, verbatim, from these same republicans, when polls show that most Americans think the GOP is nothing but a bunch of bigoted old, out of date, white guys.

That's because the mainstream media is miseducating the world on too many fronts to count.

I'm a flaming conservative and I'm an interracial (sort of) single mother. And not that old. Yet. I hope. ;-)

I'm not however part of the GOP officially. I think those bozos are way too mediocre and muddling-useless and oughtta be kicked out and make way for REAL conservatives. Were it not for Ron Paul's stance on guns I would consider a small political-shrine to him just for the sake of it. Dang I wish there were more like him.

Unfortunately the GOP are pussies and the libertarians are mostly obsessed with drugs, which leaves me with no political party except the 'the best of the worst'. The republicans are middle-road corporatism whores mostly so they suck but at least they aren't socialists (and worse) and there's more hope for recovery from one kind of shift than another.

Sigh. I'm not sure our system is designed to allow many of the kind of politicians I would find worth supporting.

But having polled every person I know about the situation, 100% of them support AZ. Then again 100% of them don't like Obama's politics, either, so there is probably some confounding factor in there . . .

Should Arizona have the right to pull the plug on L.A. if the city goes through its boycott?

What about YES?

86% have said "yes" .. considering this is the most Progressive of news sites, I think that's a pretty damn good showing.

All they have to do is write "exempt" in that spot on their W4 and they'll have no federal taken out. Then they fill in their exemptions. They'll end up "owing" except it'll be under someone else's SS#. That someone else will spend thousands of dollars and years trying to clear it all up fighting the IRS. Some people have been charged with tax evasion or had their wages on their real job garnished to pay taxes for the illegal alien invaders.

When I worked with some Illegals they explained to me how they did it: the SS Numbers *usually* are not stolen perse, but made up entirely. They use what ever name they made up (one guy was Jose Ceurvo .. he wasn't the brightest though) lol, and the SS number with their address they paid into the tax system. Come tax time, they filed just like everyone else, the IRS cannot possibly check every return, and they have to coordinate with the SS Administration to verify SS Numbers, which they don't usually do unless your return sets off red flags.

They also (at least the ones I worked with) counted their children still residing in Mexico as dependents, and actually got money back from the Gov for the Child Tax Credit.. worth the few hundred bucks to get everyone fake ss numbers. Again, they wouldn't check the SS number of your dependent unless audited. Usually at the Federal Level, they get far more back than paid in, I don't know about local/state because I never asked personally.

I've seen this mentioned before. Someone should create a "Buy Arizona" thread with a list of in-state stores with online ordering. I would, but surely someone local, ie. in the same country, can do better than I.
