...below are some more in-depth articles about this ruling (been in the news for a while)...

...comstock was convicted for being a receipent of / purchasing child pornography - sentenced to 37months... read that part again... he was NOT convicted of sexual assault... he may be nuttier than a fruitcake but this ruling craps all over the constitution and bill of rights - and - reaffirms my opinion that "innocent until proven guilty" is a farce, has always been a farce (especially if you're not white)...

That is ridiculous, thought crimes
?

The act of normal sex is not illegal, therefore if thought crimes existed then thinking about sex would still not be illegal. Thinking about sex offender type sex would be illegal, that is if thought crimes even existed though.

Its happening today, just that your ignorance is beyond question. You do not live in teh real world if you think this is not happening already.

Everyone thinks about sex, and they the police use this to get anyone they want. The hypocrisy f the public on this is total.

Thought crimes can make you a sex offender is the eyes of the police and they will in future. Just because you do not live in the real world thats your problem, but thought crimes are just as big for police in uk and usa.

The scum in police do not think you ever have to do anything, you just have to think about sex, and you may get on there lists.

Your response was very harsh. Being a victim childhood rape at the age of 5 by a family "friend", I can more than empathize with the victims you invoke.

Sex offenders are the lowest of the low and even they don't get "respect" in prison. However, once they have served their time, that should be the end of it.

Like the OP said, it's a slippery slope were going down here. If a sex offender did was not made to serve enough time then you can't just decide to keep them longer. Like another poster said, how long until they do this to murderers, drug dealers, etc.?

Good. Those Sex Offenders should be thrown into maximum security prisons. Think about it, if some 40 year old guy rapes a 6 year old girl, then that event would ruin that girls life. Some much emotional damage is caused by rape and creates negative behavior later in life, and anger if the mind suppresses the event.

wait wait wait. sex offenders are not worse than MURDERERS, that is just crazy. maybe if they're sex offenders as well as murderers, they're worse than the "average" murderer.

Absolutely not.

First of all, sex offenders are wrongfully prosecuted by the droves. A 18-20 year old getting arrested for sleeping with a 16 year old girl. Or someone getting arrested for mooning traffic, etc.

These are not crimes. Yet, they are prosecuted as such, in many cases. What's the point of even sentencing someone if the court is only going to hold them virtually forever? Screw it, let's just get rid of a fair trial altogether! Yay!

Also, a lot of sex offenders are scum, yes. But let's be realistic here. If you don't see how politicians and authority figures exploit sex offender hatred, then you are a stupid, ignorant fool. Sex offenders have to be identified in the community when they are released, and move in, but murderers do not. A friggin' MURDERER, someone who has REMOVED A HUMAN BEING from the face of this Earth, does NOT have to be identified and can move into any house like a thief in the night.

We lost a lot of ground having our emotions exploited with sex offenders, so it's too late to back out. Frankly, I have no idea how further we should take it, and have no idea what we should do now, but I know people are ridiculously dramatic and will accept anything "for the children".

The guy who did this to me and my sister was in jail for only 3 months. Sick...
So in a way it would have been nice for him to be in longer because 24 years has passed and I often wonder if there was some other little girl's life he ruined. With that said, if we were talking about this 24 years ago, I still wouldn't think it was okay for the gov't to decide that 3 months wasn't long enough. This is circumvention of the justice system. Pull one brick out and it all comes tumbling down.

edit: Sorry got a little too personal

Try to get a grip on yourself. Most sex offenders are in jail serving light sentences or moderate sentences for your average sex crimes. Sexual assault, indecency, etc. Rape is common, but not as common as you think when held up to the general offender statistics. These are all bad, but they are not nearly as bad as a man raping a small child. If a man rapes a small child, that man is most likely never going to see the light of day outside of prison, ever again. At least for a loooong time, especially considering the fact that someone is liable to end his life behind bars.

Stop trying to inflate "sex offender" with "child rapist", because it's almost never the case, and it usually involves two adults, in very questionable cases a lot of the times. You're being manipulated, in my opinion, and you subscribe to the "FOR THE CHILDREN!!!!" mentality, like a lot of people do. Why does no one feign as much concern for murderers? Seriously. That's evidence right there, on how people's emotions are exploited.

Exactly by definition every one is a sex offender in todays world, and the ptb will use this to target anyone they want. You never need to want to have sex, just thinking about it, which everyone on earth does, can make you a sex offender, and thats a fact.

You see they get away with this as everyone is a hypocrite, and try and pretend they do not think about sex when everyone does.

Its a fact just thinking about sex can make the ptb label you a sex offender, which is so absurd as everyone thinks about sex.

But like i say they get away with this as everyone is a hypocrite.

Why not include murders into this new "policy"? How about drug traffickers?

Because sex offenders are at the bottom of the stack and nobody will argue about it. Yes, it is a slippery slope and Yes they will not stop at just sex offenders.

Sex offenders is just a good place to get your foot in the door when it comes to violating civil liberties.

Bet your bottom dollar it will not stop there.

Lol this conversation is over you're clearly not in the real world yourself. Do not call me ignorant, you're the one that is stating and presenting the idea that we are all sex offenders because we think about sex as fact.

I can't even begin to think where I'd take up this argument, just forget it I known that what you're saying is wrong; you know it's right, let's leave it at that.

GOOD!

Alright, I'm usually against any sort of "indefinetly" for convicts and stuff, even murderers..

Pedophiles however, not so much.

I think once convicted the minimum sentence should be life in prison.

That's just how I feel about the issue. So I'm happy the SCOTUS made the in my mind, appropriate decision.

These individuals are sick and you can't fix them no matter what. It's attraction, and you can't prevent people from being attracted to what they are attracted to..

PERIOD.

I personally think sex offenders/rapists/child molestors are the most digusting vile degenerate people in the entire world. Way worse than any drug dealers...etc. Hold them in prison for their whole lives for all I care. None of these people are ever rehabilitated and change, they contribute nothing to society. Let them rot.

How on earth can a murderer be worse than a sex offender?

I know of someone who was set upon in a snooker hall by two men armed with bats and various other weapons. As they attempted to beat him to a pulp, he smashed a beer bottle and stabbed one in the neck defending himself blindly in the skirmish; the fight ended quickly as it became apparent that the wounded attacker was dying. The guy with the bottle fled and most likely saved his own life, sadly he was sent to prison for murder. However he was merely doing anything he could whilst defending his own life as I'm sure many of us would in a similar situation.

Now this guys is a murderer yes, but compare what he did to that of a child molester or rapist, in my opinion it doesn't come close in terms of crime.

There's many factors and levels to murder and sex offenders etc, but I feel in their extremities sex offenders are still far worse than any murderer.

Oh yeah and the guy was attacked because he refused to give up his snooker table.

The issue isn't the length of the sentence given being too short or too long. it's lengthening the sentence AFTER the sentence given has already been served.

That's fine.

Like I said, I could care less about Child Molestors, they are beneath human beings as far as I am concerned.

Let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives. They are lucky we aren't executing them all...

It may wrong from a legal or moral standpoint, hell even a constitutional standpoint, but I don't think they deserve to be covered under those rights.
