Chavez asks Venezuelans to tweet on speculators

www.google.com

President Hugo Chavez urged supporters to use Twitter to blow the whistle on currency speculators on Sunday and announced that police raids on illegal traders would continue as Venezuela's government tries to defend the embattled bolivar.

The socialist leader asked Venezuelans to send messages identifying illegal traders. He described them as "thieves" who must be punished for currency speculation, which he blames for rapidly rising inflation.

What? Using social networking to catch criminals?

Isn't this kind of all based on hearsay? For example, I could tweet that you are illegally trading US dollars on the black market, whether or not its true. Heck, I could even go to an internet cafe and do it anonymously. Next thing you know, you're being raided. Nice. I can defintely see this system being abused.

What does ATS think?

LOL I started a thread on this too, and only got snarky comments so far. Maybe you will have better luck.

I do think this could be a good idea, but like the OP said, people will use it to get back at an enemy or for fun. The sad truth of the matter is the government will be spending time looking at all these innocent people causing the guilty to still get away with illegal trading.

Would it not just be a huge waste of money investigating EVERY claim or illegal activity through Twitter? Seems fairly impractical.

So,

Who's up for tweeting Chavez that the US is a "currency speculator" ?

Oh yeah--he is a really great guy....
"Hugo Chavez – embraced by liberal celebrities like Cindy Sheehan, Danny Glover, Harry Bellafonte and Sean Penn and cheered on college campuses by professors and union leaders across the country during a visit to America – just declared himself President for Life in Venezuela.
Or, more accurately, he brow-beat the populace into approving an end to term limits with fear of government reprisals if they didn’t vote his way."

Of course it would be a huge waste of money. I'm just saying in a perfect world it would be a good idea, but like everyone knows we aren't living or will never live in a perfect world. For once I would just like to see honest people caring about our world and what goes on in it.

So many people ring up the secret service and homeland secuirty claiming threats by people they do not like to get them in trouble.

The scum police believe anyone making up anything, and will even go as far as desperately try to frame innocent people that have done nothing, just on made up info on phone tips.

Police have to be the biggest killers for hire in the world.

twitter.com...

How pissed will Chavez's employees get when they have to filter through all the Tweets of non-Venuzualean's complaining about speculators?

Only one way to find out

Read all the comments in the blog. You are also assuming I have no
direct knowledge of South America or its politics, and you are very wrong my friend. I know how Chavez sells oil to the U S, his biggest customer, and the U S is one of the only countries who actually pays cash at the time of purchase, not stretched out in a barter agreement with other countries to pay Venezuela over 25-30 years, and they pay only aboutt 1/3 of what we pay; and that he constantly berates the U S. He may claim to be a democracy, but he is in reality, a dictator..... and these kind of actions as posted in this article help support that point, among many other of his idealogies.

And as I stated in the thread, he is really a great guy......

But keep on loving him....that's good.. He's President for Life

You have no other choice.
