I think that if I got upset every time somebody called me a nasty name I'd have to seek help.
It's mostly natural for people to divide themselves into groups, and to police their boundaries with narratives and labels.
I guess we all must accept that we can never be a part of some groups, and that we must take things as we dish them out.
We can all still respect and help each other however, and I find often actions speak louder than politically correct words.

All that being said: I think it's terrible of gays to make other people feel bad.

I am gay myself, and I cannot say it's done in my community, although I have heard of it.

I will tell people it's unacceptable if I see it done.
However it's probably just camp spite, rather than a true dislike of anyone.
But still, for myself it's not acceptable.

Homoerotic American comedy:
"Undead and Alive" - a Western zombie flick.
The protagonists escaped from jail, only to find themselves at the mercy of an Apache woman.
Meanwhile the surrounding folk are turning into cannibalistic zombies.
Eventually our two heroes (including the gorgeous guy from "Desperate Housewives") find themselves in some very compromising naked positions.
Let's just say that they develop a lasting bond that is rather satiric of "Brokeback Mountain", and the girl is rather mistaken if she thinks the hero will save her...

Ok guys ... one, two, three ... a deep breath, and suck in those beer guts!

A mediocre, but rather unusual movie.

Glad you enjoyed Frozen Flower. I think the scene at the end of this clip from Mama Tambien must rank as one of the hottest homoerotic moment ever. Well it is Gael Garcia Bernal, after all.

I had a gay friend a long time ago he was magnificent like those lovely men in Frozen flower

the back story is I had this poor abused thoroughbred filly that I was basically resurrecting from the dead, he had a gorgeous black Arabian stallion. My horses corral backed on to the riding arena of his stable . I would watch him ride his stallion (who bucked him off every day) he would just laugh it off. He would tell me how cute he thought my filly was which I loved him for because the rest of the horse owners in the area all told me to give up on her.

we would talk and tell jokes over the fence and plan to breed our horses together and be grandparents

sometimes we went riding together (had a gelding that I used to ride with him) couldn't take my mare out with his stallion

My controlling husband would fume and fuss over me hanging out with him and and his sourpuss boyfriend who only sat in the car and watched him ride would do the same.

He was wonderful so full of love and joy and kindness I adored him

Ah, I know people like that. I call them bubble-burstin' boring bastids. When all you want to do is enjoy the beautiful scenery they have to have a strop about it to divert your attention.

I can't even post it but the opening of Otets i Syn is pretty far up on the list. Also Velvet Goldmine comes to mind.

Shaka Zulu - the 1980s' TV series.

I see now in some books that the whole series is dismissed as "soft-porn" and racist.

However, in SA most people remember it fondly, and even as a symbol of reconciliation.
Whatever the interpretation and political context, there is little doubt that "Shaka" was homoerotic in the sense of classic epics like Ben Hur.

I'm not sure what tradition this is - but it's definitely homoerotic!
Azis - Balkan's Bears.

Very much "300" machismo.

Whoa those are some thick dudes. This is like priscilla, queen of the desert on steroids... Literally. On the subject of eastern european toughboys. I've heard that many chanson(russian folk largely focused on the experiences of criminals and military) singers include veiled references to male love. Though I don't speak Russian so I am unlikely to ever know if that is true or not.

Oh come all ye gays and lesbians and other people.
Everyone has a memory of that same sex moment that haunted you for days after the viewing. Please, let's talk about it.
Strangely it's never the "porn" or targeted "homosexual" material.
Usually it's something like the male topless scenes in Ben Hur, Fight Club or war movies.
It's never overtly sexual, but a moment you can day-dream about, and treasure forever.
Sometimes it even undermines your politics, and you wish you could be with those guys from "Band of Brothers", or "Platoon".
It makes you feel like being in the worst of history.
It makes you feel so alone.
It's like the current "safety" is a poor swap for the brotherhood and togetherness of the past.
Oh I want to be 20 again and be in a war-movie ... just for the sights ... oh yes I do, I do, I do.

I just love that opening post. I'm neither gay nor lesbian but I'm in agreement.

Glad you mentioned Ben Hur, wasn't that an amazing set of shoulders he had? (and not a spray tan in sight)

Thank you so much for that great film wigit!
Just from the short commentary so far it seems to be called Silmido, and is based on the Korean conflict, or rather the Cold War conflict that has divided Korea.
It's a bit long for now, but I will watch it in the next few days.

I also agree that Ben Hur was a classic movie that set the standard for "homoeroticism" in film, and possibly it also set a whole new standard for the male physique, and men's self-image.

Despite the fact that metrosexuality is out, and the male market is again geared more towards facial hair and grit, it seems modern remakes of Biblical sword-and-sandal epics are totally clean-cut and shaven. It's almost as if the homoeroticism of some older material is now more obvious, and tactfully avoided.

The recent remake of Ben Hur was sorely disappointing.

I didn't realise they'd remade Ben Hur? What an insult. Nobody could beat Chuck Heston's role. I still like the original Apes movies because he's in them (with just a loincloth)

Do watch Silmido. The first 5 minutes is a tad confusing but when it starts proper it's a brilliant movie.

It is based on a true story of childish politics. North Korea sends 31 men to kill the leader of the South. They're caught but the south decides to send 31 men to the North to assassinate their boss.

So they take criminals, death-row inmates and low-lifes to the island of Silmido for three years of super hard intensive training, then decide to abort the project at the last minute and orders are given to kill them all. That's when it all hits the fan.

I love this music vid of the movie. The dance scene is hilarious.

Doctor House: alternative version.
Brilliant actors.
Absolutely fantastic.

Although neither House or Wilson are "gay" characters, there is no doubt that their dogged relationship, but enduring friendship, is the crux of the series.

I noticed recently how much interest there was in the art of Da Vinci, for example in a recent thread, and even people who are usually homophobic celebrated this.
Yet, few know that Da Vinci was flogged for sodomy, and never married.
So there are some definite double-standards within the usual homophobic groups.

So this post is dedicated to the arts and homoeroticism.
The classical male nude is certainly a part of this, and it is not a clip for sensitive viewers.

What is also apparent with male nudes from the ancient times is the realism of the male physique, whereas in current times porn has led to high percentages of men feeling inadequate.

Here we now have sporadic Christian movements to remove all male nude statues.
We now have a situation where even men don't know what other men look like naked, and large percentages of men feel inadequate or ashamed of their bodies.

For more on this see the British documentary: www.youtube.com...
It's almost like the last taboo to even discuss.
In a sense that's very sexist, and keeps millions of men in misery.

I wonder what you think of this modern homoerotic art? The men in my family don't like it but never explain why.

I think it's fantastic.
