This is what happens when silly songs are awarded a Grammy. I was surprised when it was awarded "Song of the year"

I think this is the problem with the world, we put so much stress and forced expectations on children nowadays. Yes the mothers don't care, but come on when has any mother cared when it comes to stardom for their children?

IMHO - The clothing is not suitable for these children.

Time for some Zomar notes...

Number one: Although a little off topic, I think it is ridiculous that this song was nominated for anything. It simply destroys the credit of whatever institution or awards ceremony actually considering or actually nominating it.

Number two: I read a lot of comments like the girls are imitating what they see on TV. Thats just simply not true. Whoever coordinated it most likely has a costume designer that made these girls wear that kind of stuff. Some or all of them may have even disliked that garb.

Number three: My co-worker used this as a ringtone. Please, don't ever consider letting this song come near your cellular device or your co-workers will honestly despise you.

How can they shake something they don't have?

I can understand the comments where some people would like to see them wear a leotard like Beyonce does in her version of the song, as a uniform like that would be more to my personal liking for this performance. But maybe they wanted to be a little original and not copy Beyonce's outfit in addition to the song?

The modesty of attire that's considered appropriate is a cultural thing. In Brazil and Japan, childrens' attire for professional performances can be less modest than in the US, in some other countries it's more modest.

So I think you're all entitled to your opinion as to how much modesty in dress is appropriate for your children and I encourage you to exercise your right as a parent to see that your kids are dressed in a manner that you feel is appropriate. On the other hand, if the parents of these children feel this level of dress is appropriate, I don't see why you have to apply your standards to their children also, apply your standards to your own kids and give other people the right to apply the standards they feel are appropriate to their kids.

If it were my girl in that dance I'd like to see her wear a leotard instead, but if that means she'd be pulled from the show because they wouldn't change all the uniforms for just one parent's objection, I'd let her participate in that uniform.

I guess I don't know what a "shimming their barely there goods" means. It sounds like people are giving adult attributes to these kids and I see them as kids, not adults. I didn't see anything sexual in their moves.

And the order of the puritans (which some are also pro guns) retaliates...!!!!

Its dancing... get over it.

The problem actually is your minds looking at 7 year olds dancing and thinking of sex... I'm a little more worried about those who associate these kids dancing with sex than with the girls dancing or choreography.

If you look at 7 year olds dancing and sex comes to mind... you have issues you should be put under surveillance. Maybe yer some sort of closet predator who hasnt come out yet...

For me... hell they did a great job and they can dance, if they're already like this at 7, they're goin to be some damn good dancers in the future.

Edit: The US is looking more and more like "American Beauty"... funny.

This is exactly the kind of thing that shouldn't be happening. Do the girls have talent? Of course, but it's being funneled in the wrong way.

7, 8 year old girls don't need to be up on stage, shaking their butts to some hip hop song. Sorry, but they don't. Those who condone this behavior are either: 1.) Messed up in their heads. 2.) Pedo's who enjoy seeing little girls do suggestive dance movies or 3.) Idiot parents who are living their lives through their children.

Just because "That's how it's done in these competitions" doesn't make it right.

Flame and hate me all you want, I'm not the one forcing my kids onto a stage to show off sexual moves for older men.

Are you serious? I think you're just trying to make some lame excuse so you can continue to watch children do this kind of crap.

I was a dancer for thirteen years from the age of 5 to 17 and we wore stuff similar. The song is not racy, it's about if they loved her they would have put a ring on her, meaning engagement to marry, duh. Anyway I see nothing wrong with what they wore, seen similar in cheer competions as well, my daughters were both in cheerleading. It's easier to move and helps with the sweat factor of the hot blazing spotlights shining on you up on stage. That was definately not lingerie, it's nothing different than a two peice bikini with a short skirt that I see girls as young as two wearing to the beach. I don't think the moves were suggestive either. It would've been if they included poles into their routine, however, it's just plain old hip hop dancing and peole need to get a grip!!!! Besides this is a sport function and usually only the judges/ families/schools, etc connected to the dancers ever go to the competition.

I can easily see how this happened....

Think of all the poor little 2 or 3 year olds whose parents drag them to beauty pageants and make them wear fake teeth, fancy outfits, parade around like a commodity, etc.

A lot of parents live vicariously through their children.

Were you an "ugly" kid growing up? No worries, you can show off your brand new 3 year old!!!

Never had any talent growing up?! That's okay, you can force your 5 year old into dance lessons!!!

Then of course there is the overdriven parent who demands that their child follow in their footsteps.. no questions asked.

Let's get one thing straight and that is children of this age have absolutely no clue of what they want to be, who they are, or what they're going to do in their life. When you see 8-10 year olds doing something like this, it's NOT because they conceptualized it.

Grown ups did.

Grown ups wanted to see 8 year olds dance like strippers.

Cool.

We can debate back and forth prudishness and morals but really this is on a different level than Miley Cyrus.

Miley chose to do what she did... these girls are being made to.

(and don't give me "they want to dance" crap... their brains aren't even fully formed yet)

Edit: Also.. whoever says these girls are "amazing" dancers, you're bonkers. I won't even bother pointing out where they were flawed 'cause that's not the point... the point is the majority of these moves these little girls were doing is what a rapper would call "twerk it."

2. twerk
to work one's body, as in dancing, especially the rear end

www.urbandictionary.com...

All they did the entire time was shake around. Throw in a few high kicks and a spin... and that's really all they did.

I've passed many a skanky stripper singles for doing less shaking than these little girls are doing.

I just don't understand how as a society we are going to put 7 year olds (what she said in the video) in that kind of outfit, dance them around like strippers, and then act shocked and appalled that we would somehow have a pedophilia problem ... ???

On the plus side I guess though... these girls are going to have the perfect skill set to pay their way through college. No wonder their parents are happy.

This is a double edge sword. It is not about what the girls are wearing and doing but the meanings that society places on it.

I would like to direct your attention to the dances performed in villages of indigenous tribes. half naked or totally nude, girls-boys-men-women, makes no difference. It is all about why for them..rejoicing, sacrificing, story-telling, etc. It is cultural.

In American culture, it is illegal to produce pornography showing young children. I do not know about you, but in my mind, pornography is any visual image that a person can whack off to. How many pedophiles do you think will download this legal video?

My question is, what the heck are we doing? Professional female swimmers do not wear an enticing skimpy bikini, why then should these little girls be subjected to showing off underdeveloped body parts. The girls are talented, they would be just as talented with more skin covered.

Some people may think that at least their private areas are covered but to a pedaphile or any horned up deviant, the breasts and genitalia are outlined by the skimpy attire. It is so absurd.

Pick one people! We either want to protect our chidlren from sexual exploitation or we want to exploit them. Strippers wear the kinds of outfits these little girls were wearing. That is so sad that the parents feel the need to sell the body instead of the talent.

Who am I to judge? I am not a dancer. I just thought competitive dancing was about dancing talent. I didn't know that in order to compete, a dancer had to be sexually provocative; I always thought that dressing sexually provocative was a requirement for a woman to get a job in a "gentleman's club" unless maybe these parents are looking for job security for their 7-8 year olds.

It is just sad that the parents thought these youngsters didn't have enough dancing talent that they had to sway the vote with skin. That's like having to show cleavage and a thigh to get a promotion in the office.

This is very disturbing. Talented: For sure. In poor taste: For sure.

I feel sorry for these girls having such stupid parents. They are already being sexualized at a very young age. They could have just as well put on an entertaining show with lots of moves and dancing wearing appropriate cloths. This is a sympton of sick society in decay.

I agree.

The sad thing is, I can picture countless times when these little girls just wanted to stay home and play with their dolls, but their parents forced them to go to rehearsals, forced them to wear skimpy outfits, and most likely forced them to go on live television.

Then we wonder why almost every child star, be it music or acting, ends up seriously effed up by the time their 20?

To me its a no brainer. If you rob a child of their childhood, they will revert back to child like behavior when they finally have the chance.

Sadly, that usually happens when they're 19 and they have freedom, money, drugs, alcohol, and plenty of friends chopping up lines just so they can go with them to the VIP area of the club.

Just look at people like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Michael Jackson......

Tragic...

the original youtube link was removed, here is another

www.youtube.com...

kind of a useless thread without a working video.

however, after watching this video, i'm kinda disgusted.

five 12 year old girls strutting around in lingerie - that video was more than dancing. whoever taught those girls that choreography had a clear intent in mind.

as much as i can't stand the current music industry and the effect they have on our children - i blame the parents. music at the end of the day is just music, regardless of what soul less youth corrupting corporate whore is singing it.

if you don't want your children to end up like these 5 obviously sexually desensitized girls, i suggest you take a greater role in your child's life.

I don't get the uproar about this.

First off, the girls are NOT wearing lingerie; they're wearing spandex shorts along with flesh colored stockings that dancers normally wear.

Secondly, do all of you throw this kind of fit when young girls wear two piece bathing suits that are infinitely more revealing? Probably not.

With those two points being made, I do think the dance moves are a little racey, but nothing overtly inappropriate. I just think you all need to calm down and let kids have some fun. This isn't going to make them any bigger targets for pedophiles than any other kid and as long as the parents were on board and there to supervise, maybe you all should lighten up a little. Christ, I thought the video was going to be somthing bad and it was just a group of talented dancers doing a great dance to a bad song.

This is not something anyone should be offended by. I would like to see what these girls are capable of on stage in a few more years. I hope they're on the next season of America's Got Talent and wear the same outfit....talk about free publicity.

Everyone who viewed this video should be arrested for watching child porn. Actually, you could be arrested. It was cute but watching children behave as adults is not funny anymore. Why was the crowd so noisy? Was it the first time they have ever seen children doing sexy moves? I am not against this video but I would not have my child dancing like that in adult bedroom clothes ment for having sex.

Look at the responses in this thread

Their dance moves are "respected" and even admired yet their clothing is disgusting? WHAT EFFING HYPOCRISY! They are BOTH disgusting. Dancing and wearing sexy clothes are one and the same. Sorry but do you honestly think those "moves" are benign? Women dance a certain way because dancing mimicks sex in many ways. A good old Fox Trot or Swing dance is hardly similar to what these young impressionable girls are doing in this video. Do you tihnk Beyonce's dance moves are not sexual in nature? Some of you are complete idiots.

These kids have better things to worry about than shaking their prepubescent asses and wearing lingerie. Math, science, cooking, and learning about the world around them comes to mind. And women sit there and bitch and moan why they can never get ahead and garner any respect from the opposite sex. Everything they do nowadays gives in to man's every desire and want. Even in this thread some of you women are glorifying their "moves" yet abhorring their clothing? Hello! That's a paradox!

And we wonder why our "dancing with the stars" celebrity culture is making our young girls so insecure and turning them into anorexic oversexualized hysterics!

And some of you idiots in this thread that think those "moves" require any talent obviously know NOTHING about real dancing and the art of dancing. I mean my god at least belly dancing has some sort of cultural aspect to it. This crap is jus that.......pedophilia crap.
