hahaha Oh yeah, just open up a dya care center in their home...Right! You think that is as easy as it was for you to type. There is SO MUCH DISGUSTING red tape to open ANY Business in California, no matter what it is. It cost a frien of mine thousands of dollars and BS red tape just to start selling on eBay at home full time.
I can't imagine the red tape for child care...it would take $10k or more just to get started.

Years ago, when I was selling on eBay, I started a business just for fun. I had to apply for a fictitious name and print a statement in a newspaper, I had to get a seller's permit from the state, I had to get a business license from the city, and I opened a free business checking account with my bank. Plus I got set up with Paypal and eBay of course. It didn't even cost $100 as I recall. Why would it cost thousands to start a business? You could even start a corporation for less than that. As for day care, there are laws that require you to get formal training if you want to care for more than a few children. You need to be licensed. You can take those classes at city college for $12 or $13/unit. The books are the most expensive part of city college. They run up to $100/book. I took summer classes in city college while in high school just for experience. My mom used to babysit neighborhood kids while I was little. It's a good way to make a little money while watching your own kids.

I want to add that when it comes to tax time, which in some cases could be every quarter, not just every year, you willl need to pay taxes at every level. Sales tax in particular applies to items purchased from someone within your own state. You are collecting it to pay to the state board of equalization.

Business management was my university major. Entreprenuership was one of my electives.

Not to be mean, yet they should be happy with what they have. There are many that would consider that a much happier life compared with what the struggle they face. The grass is always greener...

If they live in California, there are many other resources besides the State. We Californians can afford to lose the WELFARE-TO-WORK program because we still got all these other programs that aren't being cut.

I ask you to reconsider to understand that the govenator only targeted the WELFARE-TO-WORK program and not ALL welfare programs.

This thread is filled with stupid people that only see that word "welfare" in the phrase "end welfare-to-work program" and they cry bloody murder over nothing but a corrupt scandal of tax evasion and money laundering. It's not going to make anybody starve. Freak'n get rid of it. To get rid of it will solve many problems that put people in worse situations than what you posted.

Is Welfare to Work called CalWorks or something like that? Anyway, don't forget there are other welfare programs out there for the unemployed in California. Welfare is supposed to be temporary anyway. It was never meant to be perpetual. Furthermore, food stamps is a Federal program. So people saying people won't be able to eat are misinformed. They'll still get their EBT. Plus there are other food programs for the poor. I think one is for women and children. Isn't it called something like WC? I see the signs at the store, and I see women using the checks. Then of course no one will lose their health care. There are laws regarding that that good ol' Arnold has no plan of changing. It's not going to be as bad as people make it out to be. There will be riots, but it doesn't take much to create a riot in California.

I do understand that, and I respect that position. However, personally, I would counter that the welfare to work program is why I and the person I live with have jobs right now, and that we are not alone in that. How many people currently making use of the program won't end up with jobs if it's cut? How many single parents will have to curtail work hours if their children don't have daycare to stay at?

I would also counter that there are other ways to increase state revenue and savings (I mentioned a few in my previous post.) Lastly, if these budget shortfalls continue, there will likely come a time when other benefits will be cut.

I understand that this is a controversial and heated issue, and I do respect your position.

Except you have to do an face to face interview a majority of the time to receive benefits. You don't just drop off an application and get them. It is pretty obvious to caseworkers what you are.

Really, it's just another way of saying without meaning to, he's going to follow in the footsteps of Arizona.

He's doing it the smarter way. Why waste resources rounding people up when you can cut off their resources? They will pick up and leave on their own.

Good luck to him though. People will probably riot.
Probably.
They will use all their energy to riot, instead of find work.
But, then again, as the illegals get squeezed out, the low-life "welfarians" will be forced to move in and take those jobs.

Hmm. Sounds like a logical plan to me.

What a novel idea!! Illegals leave and Americans go to work. Once the welfare stops, $8 an hour looks pretty good.

wonder.....how much a family would have to cut out of their budget to live on an $8 an hour job??
you'd think that if a family could pull that one off, then a state could cut their budget down to the kind revenue california is bringing in without leaving people out on the street or going hungry (not an issue....yet) ????

if they can't, well, may I suggest something...
lead by example? cut their own danged bloated salaries first!!!
at least then the people might actually take their cries deficits more seriously?

bout time someone cuts out wellfare, I know too many families getting it where the husband is a bum and so is the wife... they never work, just keep popping out babies for more assistance.

if wellfare had been cut out in new orleans, the place would have been cleaned up long before katrina hit

Most of us have seen his movies. But to say he is a bad person also, do you know him as a person or are you taking your information from some place else that can be referenced?

Above, I just listed options that the county provides. To cut what the State does will not affect what the County and Federal already provides.

The State level is not needed. I don't think you and many in the thread understand that point. No one gonna lose daycare. No one is gonna lose jobs. It only might require a little more footwork to achieve the same results.

Given it's only a little more footwork, don't you think it is at least worth that?

I would also counter that there are other ways to increase state revenue and savings (I mentioned a few in my previous post.) Lastly, if these budget shortfalls continue, there will likely come a time when other benefits will be cut.

You have only made a generalized speculation. I have shown concrete options even if the state completely removed welfare at its level, which is not what the govenator planned.

People really don't understand the corrupt burden the welfare-to-work program has created. People whine and cry about Obamacare yet the same people scream and tantrum about the welfare-to-work... absolute ridiculous hypocrisy. At least Obamacare doesn't put people in jail.

Before you call him a crap person, why don't you follow in his footsteps and take absolutely no income for 4 years.

Good luck.

The cost of living in CA is high. Doesn't it make sense that, in order to drive costs down, people will need to be paid less? If there are 1,000 apartments for rent for $1800 a month and no one can rent them, won't they lower the price until they fill the units?

My point is... there is room to move. Part of that "reset" for Californian will be adjustment to the cost of living. It won't be painless but maybe they'll be better in the end.

Inflation is a constant struggle. The attempts to cap & trade and set max incomes for CEOs were to prevent the consistent reaction to raise inflation rates every time the minimum wage is raised.

To raise the minimum wage should not be an excuse to raise inflation more. It effectively nullifies the overall effect except to increase barriers to market. Think Zimbabwe hyperinflation.

There needs more prevention to stop banks being able to re-coin with lesser values with stamps of face value. RFID in money doesn't sound like a bad idea here just to prevent this, yet people are still freaked out by it. One could scan the contents of a coin to make sure it is of a purified value.

At this point, the banks re-coin in order to stay in business over inflations rates while everybody else suffers. The banks should also be held responsible.

Antonia, you made a very clever observation and I agree. Why waste resources on rounding up and kicking out, when you can cut off the supply thus getting them to leave of their own accord. Unfortunately, many people are American. Cut off the no-strings-attached source and they will find another.

This is not about the illegal immigrants. The Terminator has finally spoke up about all the lazy asses in America. No more laying around making babies, no more living off the pregnant girlfriend's benefits, no more free ride for anyone. No more rich paying for the privelege of having a poor class.

What are his opponents going to say? I guy born under socialism that came to America in it's capitalist prime years isn't going to know that social welfare doesn't work so why should he be the one to stop it?

We should have done this before the corporations took over and ousted alot of small business people and farmers. Unless you work for a corporation you starve because the corporations control everything and they are not hiring!

The Terminator's plan will backfire on him unless his next moves kick out corporations and assist small business and small farmers.

Calfornia needs more of a social welfare, yet the State's current welfare-to-work program is not social welfare.

Unless you work for a corporation you starve because the corporations control everything and they are not hiring!

The State's welfare-to-work program was written by those corporations for those corporations. People still think it was intended for the poor. It's discrimination when you have to sign-up for the welfare-to-work program in order to get hired.

Just look in this thread and see how many already complain, "oh mercy mercy... what am I gonna do if I can't use the welfare-to-work program to get hired!" Oh ya... that got these people "programmed" already.

Yes they probably should. I still think it will be a long road before anything like that ever happens. Thanks for your contributions.

Good for him for cutting off the people who have no work ethic and feel entitled , to keep the state out of even more debt.

He gets the value of hard work and reaping what you sow. Three careers later he has a true sense of what it means to make your way from nothing.

And shame on the people saying that the consequences for such an act will be dire! The consequence for not doing anything is far worse.

Example:

Man A: I work 60 hours a week and, as a result spend a portion of my income
to buy groceries.

Man B: I'm am artist and shouldn't be held to same standard as others! I am
unique! As such my income is piece meal but I DESERVE TO GET THE
SAME THING OTHERS GET! I should get a stamp for food!

I don't buy it. Too many people play the victim and don't take responsibility for their lot in life. There are obstacles to overcome. Some will seem insurmountable.

But the view point of many is that they should get something for nothing, because others have the same thing. Regardless of the actual work required to get what they want. This is becoming a consistent theme in the youth of the nation. Ridiculous shows like "My Sweet Sixteen" on MTV exemplifies this ideal.

The system as it is at the moment, teaches that it is OK to not be responsible for yourself. You are a victim. That someone else will provide it for you, because it's hard!

I for one will not be partaking in the cool aid.

If an Austrian immigrant can do it, I have faith that anyone with perseverance can.
