Rest strokes are often used when playing classical music on the guitar. It's not so esoteric as it sounds. It's simply when you pluck a string and (usually) land against another, and let the first note ring. I hear several very nice rest strokes throughout your piece, and I appreciate it all the more that you weren't trying to achieve that effect. It's just pure BH, unplugged and live. Very nice m'friend.
Yes, the song is a tad depressing, but it's also important. We sing and play what we feel, and perhaps make a statement from time to time through our music.
