I would rather have a gun and not need it .. than not have one when I need it ..

You can't ban guns even if you wanted to at this stage .. people will just start making their own .. or buying elsewhere ..

As for Palin .. that mentally retarded twat .. the only thing worse than her is the group of demented idiots that support her ..

Wont happen? Why then is it illegal to own any firearm in Chicago? Obama has 7 pieces of legislation in the House and Senate to Restrict firearm ownership. If he does not want this, why is he trying to pass laws for it? Why does he only pick female judges who are strongly opposed to gun ownership? Your reasoning makes no sense. You sir are a programmed.

and your statement here is true "They (the gov) is not out to "get" you, or harm you, or make your life worse."

They are not out to get us, they are out to control us. They don't want to harm us, but they don't care for protecting us either. They don't want to make our lives worse, consequently however they are doing just that in their pursuit of making the powerful more powerful

That's true. On the other hand, its also true that an awful lot of politicians think they know what's best for you, regardless of whether or not you agree that it is. The nanny state garbage is running rampant in this country. They don't care what you want. All they care about is reshaping society to fit their own ideal vision, however misguided it may be. Gun control and gun bans tend to be near the top of their list of priorities, too.

Well, we know obama's against tightening up our boarders, just look at his reaction to Arizona for the proof on that. He can't stand the Tea Party, he's for socialised medicine, so, yeah, I can see him banning guns if he could, he just needs to stage a few more shootings to get more of his sheep behind him again.

I don't know how restricted gun ownership in America is so I won't comment on that. However perhaps there should be some limits in gun ownership laws in America? Are criminals, who have done robbery allowed to carry a gun? Are there mental tests regarding gun ownership or is it so that you can go and buy weapon if you want to?
I don't have enough knowledge on that matter so if anyone can give me some facts I'll gladly listen...
I'm not against guns, it just seems that through hollywood and media that in America almost everyone has a gun. I have nothing against guns and perhaps I will get one someday. I actually enjoyed when I was younger paintball shooting in forest near old factory with my friends.
I wonder through could Americans use less damaging weapons such as electrical stunners instead of guns, which in bigger likelihood are lethal. If I could I would probably also restrict gun ownership in some ways. I mean if American society wouldn't be so unequal you probably wouldn't need a gun in first place as social differences would be smaller and thus need to rob someone's house.
Oh, and don't get me started on creating new government if old is failure...
Most americans are in such debt that they won't go against government even if they wanted. Not to mention losing their job and being left with nothing. I thought I read from somewhere that univercity in US demanded students FB passwords as requirement for something...

I think I'm going to quote one of your founding fathers:

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
Thomas Jefferson

What I think that americans are rather those who fear. It seems to me that Americans are afraid of their government and there is no trust between public and government. I'm skeptical against my government, but i believe that most of the things it does are correct. If government says something then it must be true....at least that's the mentality around here. I'm not afraid of my government. I know that people will go on streets and on strike if government does something inapproperiate (in some sectors 90% of people belong to unions and benefits fought by unions are gained by everyone in that sector. Yes, even those who don't belong to unions will get the benefits. )

We have a Ban on all fully auto weapons in all but I believe 3 states who have strongly said no to that federal law.

You cannot own any firearms or be around them if you are a convicted felon. (even a class C felony takes away your right to own a firearm)

you cannot own a firearm, or be around firearms if you are on probation for any crime.

You cannot conceal any firearm (keep it hidden) without a permit approved by your county law enforcement.

A background check is required for all firearm purchases in the US (with the exception of gun shows in Texas) [I'm actually against gun shows and believe they are only allowed to give those opposed to firearms ammunition against gun owners]

Their are many other laws that vary state by state, including laws on open carry, and white castle laws which allow you to defend yourself in your own home (love Washington state sometimes). Also note that Chicago has an all-out ban on ALL firearms. You cannot even own one in your home.

Anyone convicted of a felony in the United States, whether it is classified as a violent felony or not, is barred from owning firearms. Criminal history and mental health history are both a part of the background check required to purchase a firearm from a gun dealer.

Please tell me people on ATS are not this stupid.

So since Palin said she knows what Obama thinks...then it MUST be true???

So sad.

Sarah Palin is Pure Politics, No Facts. Listen to her for 3 minutes and it's obvious that your average ATS member knows more about the real world than she does. She's a mouthpiece for the Right, she has sold her soul to them, and to her facts don't matter, they just get in the way of her speeches.

I think she looks kind of sexy with those glasses and that school-teacher look, but as soon as she opens her mouth her beauty disappears.

I bet she could make a HOT video though.

So what? Even if that is the way he felt, he's not going for the guns...and couldn't take them if he tried.

That's like saying that Palin would allow for the offshore drilling and ignore environmental disasters....IF SHE COULD.

There is a major difference between what someone can do and what someone would do.

Also, it's nice to know that Sarah Palin is now a mind reader....that "gift" could have helped her and McCain in 2008

Like others have said, she will tell an audience anything they want to hear. She is purely motivated by money.

Anyone who listens to Sarah Palin's outlandish and contrived smear pandering dribble, shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun.

Leave it to the Republicans to divide this country even more. Seriously, this party is ruining this country more than ever and they're not even in the white house.

I have several firearms. Some I have bought in private sales. There is absolutely no record of me owning them, anywhere. But they are perfectly legal in every sense. I have a CCW license also.

Now tell me how Obama is going to take away my guns? And I am a very small player compared to many people I know.

There is no way the people of the USA can be disarmed. To even attempt it would be political suicide. But Sarah is right: Obama would if he could.

Btw, these two statements are false:

And she backed this up with facts? No because she doesn't deal in facts; she deals in hysteria, fear mongering and hyperbole. She is standing up for my rights to carry a gun because she cares about average Americans ? Ego and greed is what she stands for.
Who authored and signed the Patriot Act? Liberals or cons?

Why is the media (and ATS for that matter) covering a political non-entity?

I'm getting about as tired of seeing the media cover Sarah Palin as I am of them covering the comings and goings of Paris Hilton.

Look at drugs, outlawed yet you can purchase 'em on any street corner. If guns were to be outlawed all it'd do is take guns away from honest citizens, while criminals had all the access they needed.

Concealed carry permit and background check on firearms are not federal laws? They are law in Washington State, Maybe I was assuming these were federal laws. You have different laws on concealed weapons in your state? Please Explain Mishigas.

Sarah Palin makes me laugh whenever she opens her mouth. Her very existence on the national stage depends on the ignorance of those who support her. Name the issue and a bit of research will shed light on the actual facts and truth that she so conveniently distorts... Specific to this thread is her "warning" to NRA members: Obama wants to "...ban guns, ban ammunition and gut the 2nd Ammendment..."

In fact, Obama has largely been silent on issues such as reviving an assault weapons ban or strengthening background checks at gun shows. He also signed a law allowing people to carry loaded guns in national parks.

Palin knows full well that alarmist talk feeds the frenzy of support that she already has. While on the other hand, any sensible person knows full well that it would be impossible for the US govt to take away the over 250,000,000 privately-owned firearms.

Imagine who would comply with a govt dictate to not only ban guns and ammo, but to take away guns from the citizenry? While the "good" people turn in their weapons, the "bad" people keep theirs. The government is not that stupid. Even law enforcement officials wouldn't support this as they know full well that a major deterrent on crime (home invasion) is the unknown >>> does the owner of that house have weapons inside with which to defend him/herself?

Weapons in private hands are an established fact in the U.S. Nothing is going to change this...... regardless of the rhetoric.
