Mustafa Malik, a columnist with the Nexus Syndicate in Washington, has researched US policy options in the Middle East in the 1990s with fellowships
from the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the University of Chicago's Middle East Center. He wrote this commentary for THE DAILY STAR.
He argues that a democratically constituted Iraq may in fact be a death knell for the countrys future and thereby create a regional conflagration.
This is, but one of the complex problems which - could have been foreseen -but were never anticipated; or more inappropriately and disturbingly,
withheld from Congress and the American, in the debate run up to the vote to go to war.
An interesting read by a non-American observer..
