Russia Sells Syria Warplanes: Official

MOSCOW - Russia is supplying Syria with warplanes, armored vehicles and air defense systems under existing contracts, ITAR-Tass News Agency quoted the head of the country's state military agency as saying.

Mikhail Dmitriyev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, said Russia was selling Syria MiG-29 fighter jets, Pantsir short-range air defense systems and armored vehicles.

Russia has been poking their little fingers in a lot of stuff here recently huh? Supplying Syria with Migs and supporting their Nuclear advancement. As the article states, doesn't make the U.S. and Israel very happy. Seems like Russia is instigating pretty hard as of late. Question is, when the SHTF, what will their stance be then?

There has been a lot going on lately with foreign nations supporting Syria's military growth. China, North Korea, Russia; all adding to the pot. It sure seems like they are going to be a major player in some future event.

Well, on the flip side of that it's not any different than the US supplying Israel or other countries in the region with military support. I don't like hearing about Russia or China supplying to anybody, but in reality its expected. Wouldn't be much of an ally if they didn't.

Just to add, it helps keep our govt honest to some extent. Its all about deterrence and I'd rather it was done with armored vehicles and airplanes rather than nuclear weapons or biological.

Whats wrong with Russia selling it's inferior war technology to our potential enemies?

Plus it makes it easy on our Squints (imagery analysts) to ID potential targets. Win-Win for us!

Most of the non-Nato world still uses the Soviet Order of Battle anyways. Why not use the gear too?
