I'm not gonna lie the **** was tight...

I don't think they're sending out 'active' psychic fields that make us see them as human because we still see them as human on TV and in any case it would require deep access into our minds.

This suggests that they are either physically shifting or our own minds block out the reptilian image.

I already said how a post human creature made of nano-machines could easily change it's shape and texture as long as it doesn't change its mass.

If its our own minds substituting a human appearance for the creature then there are a couple of options. The illusion could be hard coded into our DNA by the reptilians or something else.

Or perhaps their true form is so reprehensible that we cannot comprehend it and the reptilian form is a compromise between knowing it is not human and avoiding its true visage.

This is all speaking hypothetically of course.
