Franklin Roosevelt was the first President to begin appointing czars into american positions. JFK tried to stop this, but Johnson was quick to begin appointing czars as soon as he took office.

Summary table - Number of czars per administration
The first number indicates the number of positions & the second number indicates the number of appointees. Obama sure has a lot of positions that still need filled!

Franklin Roosevelt 1933–1945 12 19
Harry Truman 1945–1953 6 6
Dwight Eisenhower 1953–1961 1 1
John F. Kennedy 1961–1963 0 0
Lyndon Johnson 1963–1969 3 3
Richard Nixon 1969–1974 3 5
Gerald Ford 1974–1977 1 1
Jimmy Carter 1977–1981 3 2
Ronald Reagan 1981–1989 1 1
George H. W. Bush 1989–1993 2 3
Bill Clinton 1993–2001 7 10
George W. Bush 2001–2009 35 47[1]
Barack Obama 2009– 38 8[1]

Did you know that Karl Rove held the title of czar?
You can access the complete list of czars at the link I have provided below, which is from Wikipedia. Please take special note that there are more AIDS czars than any other type. Also notice that Bush's Clean-Up Czar was terminated as soon as he was requesting transparency. I'm working on a downsized list with Obama's czars highlighted. I will post it as soon as it is finished. Thanks in advance for your patience.

They are non-Russian government officials who are appointed to special positions in order for a socialist President to feel as though he has even more control over things. Don't worry, it's not communist, just a communist term.

That's not the Wikipedia definition, but that's what I got out of all the stupid titles above each department.

Who wants to make a bet that JFK's assination may have doen so that the government could appoint czars again?

Thanks a lot Afterthought, it sometimes gets a bit confusing with all the different government official titles from all around the globe :S

You're welcome.
The Wikipedia definition is as follows: In the United States, the informal political term "czar" or "tsar" is employed in media and popular usage to refer to high-level officials who oversee a particular policy. There have never been any U.S. government offices with the title "czar", but various governmental officials have sometimes been referred to by the nickname "czar" rather than their actual title.

I guess it's considered a nickname so everyone doesn't get all excited.

I believe that this will become a global term though. Especially now that Russia is coaching Obama on how to handle Iran.
Darn it! I was going to post the link to the article, but it's been taken off Drudge. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, I scoured a few major news sites, but it's obviously been scrapped for one reason or another. The only news I found relevant to Russia & the US converging was this article about the Peace Treaty between the US & Russia. Obama submitted it to the Senate today.

www.wftv.com...

I guess someone jumped the gun this morning & they don't want everyone to know that Russia is talking to Obama about Iran. I'll keep looking for the article, but I bet it's been taken down for good.

Here's an article about Russia & the US teaming up against Iran, but it was from March 4th, 2009. Hmmm ... strange things seem to be afoot.

The following article about the war on drugs contains a statement from the Drug Czar. He says that calling it a war really limits your resources.

I'm shamelessly giving this one more bump because I feel that it is important & signifies the fall of america & its Constitution.

I believe that John F. Kennedy believed that czars shouldn't be part of american politics & this may have played a part in his assination.

Can we please discuss this?

Actually, the communists hated the czars! The last Russian czar, along with his entire family, were massacred by the communists.

Hi, Masonic Light. Thanks for participating in this discussion. The killing and ousting of the czars in Russia happened during the Bolchevik Revolution, right? So, if Russia hated them so much, why are we now using the term & bestowing it on certain political figure heads such as Bush's architect Karl Rove? Do you feel that czars will become a global term? Why would we start using the term czar if they were so hated & accomplished nothing good for the country the first time?

IMO, government is too big because politicians, and people in general, use the good old buddy system.

Man/woman gets job...they create positions for their family & friends.....family & friends gain government positions....repeat process...

Eventually, we will ALL work for the government. Might as well, as we are already slaves to it!

Very true. I believe that the czars fall into this category. It's as if they are made up positions so their friends & family can be in with the good ol' boy network. I would like to see the government widdled down & I believe this could begin by getting rid of the czars. If you see on Wikipedia's list, only 1 has ever been fired & that's because he wanted to see certain reports & requested transparency. He was one of W's czars.
