New Hawaii law prevents seizure of legal guns in an emergency

Sen. Sam Slom, a Republican representing Hawaii Kai, says law-abiding gun-owning citizens were concerned that police wouldn't be able to protect everyone during a major emergency.

Gun-rights activists have pursued this kind of law since Hurricane Katrina, when New Orleans police confiscated guns in an attempt to restore order.

Heh-Heh...

Looks like Hawaii doesn't want any repeats of the jack-booted thuggery like Katrina, where gov goons used the tradgedy to capitalize on power implementaion and to see what they could get away with.

Hopefully more states follow suit and stop letting big brother intimidate its citizens...

Don't allow yourself to become too smug or comfortable with this. This is just for show. Read the legislation - it specifically states that this applies only to those guns that are "Legally owned". Keep in mind, it would take a simple stroke of pen to change the definition of a "Legally owned firearm" which would then make the confiscation of all others not only permissible, but obligatory.
