MCALLEN - The Texas Department of Public Safety has released a statement reguarding an internal memo leaked to CHANNEL 5 NEWS.
The statement says "The Department of Public Safety does not generally comment on law enforcement-sensitive communications. The document related to
Mexico that was leaked today was not intended to be released to the public because DPS has been unable to verify the accuracy or credibility of the
claims made in the letter.
The memo was intended to aid law enforcement agencies in gathering information and to remind law enforcement officers to be aware of their
surroundings at all times.
DPS values its law enforcement partners and understands the importance of intelligence sharing in an effort to ensure public safety."
It's refering to a memo that warns of potential violence in Mexico this weekend.
At the same time CHANNEL 5 NEWS sources have confirmed the Zetas are preparing for an attack near Reynosa in the next few days.
The same sources recommend not going into Mexico along the border because of the possible danger.
This all comes just days after the United States State Department issued a revised travel warning that included Tamaulipas and Sinaloa as hotspots for
drug violence that should be avoided by American travelers.
This just came out early this morning. It appears Texas border police agencies are very concerned over reports of the possibility of violence that
they are being told to expect in the next few days. The media source has also confirmed similar intelligence through their channels. Whether this be
drug related ( we wont discuss some of the video I have seen come out of the region involving that) or testing the weak resolve of the American people
and their unwillingness to support Arizona in their illegal immigration battle remains to be seen.
UPDATE: This memo is in reference to expected drug gang violence in Mexico this weekend. (see below followup with link)
