A service that allows Google's search engine to be used anonymously is running again after a code change briefly knocked it down.

Source

Scroogle allows people to use Google's search engine without the company recording their search terms with their real IP (Internet protocol) address. Google's search results are proxied through a Scroogle server and only sees Scroogle's IP address.

Privacy activists contend that connecting IP addresses with search queries -- done by all major search engine companies -- poses privacy and security concerns. Google anonymizes the last octet of the IP address after nine months, but many argue that level of anonymization doesn't go far enough.

I didn't even know it went down
in fact, until I read this article I never even knew this Google feature existed. Learn something new everyday.
I may just have to start using it when I am searching for super top secret stuff to post on ATS

I just typed scroogle.com into my browser and it took me to a porn site.

So how is Scroogle any different from any other proxy site I've come accross? Is this thread is not about advertising scroogle but making people aware there are tools to hide your IP, then I'll just add one more thing:

Google 'proxy'.

Scroogle only works with Google, it doesn't proxy anything else as far as I know. If you know of competitive sites, list them because I didn't know what to use when Scroogle went down, it's not just an ordinary proxy.

Not only that but it doesn't serve up the ads from Google that you would still see if you just used a proxy server, I think.

Actually if Scroogle.org is up again that is good news.

I posted a thread when it was shut down here.

Let's hope it stays that way.
