Picture of the actual oil pipe released!!!!!!!!!!!

www.google.com

CNN just released a video clip of the actual portion of the pipe that is spewing oil into the Gulf. But all I could find was this article and no videos.

I mean I'm not sure what we are looking at in the video if anyone has seen it. But it was pretty mind boggling that something that seems so small cannot be plugged so easily. I mean it looked like a pipe spewing out steam. And the greatest minds in the USA cannot close this thing off?

I feel one reason why this thing hasn't been blown shut or whatever is because if anything were to permanently shut this oil well down it would mean huge losses for BP. They want to salvage the oil and most importantly the well instead of just permanently closing it with whatever means possible.

Look at the first solution they had that failed. They planned to put some kind of housing over the pipe, the housing also including a pipe leading up to ships on the surface which were supposed to suck up the leaking oil into containers to be later processed.

This situation is nothing but another FUBAR incident by the US government, FUBAR in the sense that it is so FUBAR that no average American citizen has the intelligence to put 2 and 2 together to realize that nothing adds up here.

I guess I am being ignorant but why not take a robot and squeeze the damn thing shut. Why do they need to pipe it up to the top?

From what I watched, I don't think that this really is all that bad. I know
that every gallon of oil in the water is helping to destroy the ecosystem, but I don't see a lot of oil coming up, there doesn't seem to be that much
pressure blowing out and there isn't too much debris. So why can't these
jughead oil people get this resolved before it totally pollutes the Gulf?

I don't understand how they can be so helpless and not get this solved.
But I agree that it has to be fixed real soon because this oil is washing
up on the shores already and it has to be killing off the wildlife and fish.
I want some good Louisiana shrimp, and not that stuff from Thailand.

While i should contribute to this thread, i will not.

first of all, the thread title. whats with all the exclamation marks? it just shows that you're an attention whore.

and second you speak of picture/video/footage yet you dont provide any except an article on the subject.

3rd there are over 10 other threads discussing what you want to discuss, but the other ops have bothered to post useful information so i'd rather discuss it there.

i'm sorry mate but you should just add more and make it worthy enough to have all those exclamation marks!!!!

I believe this is the latest video

www.huffingtonpost.com...

How many gallons do you think spewed out in that 30 second video? What is that, a 12" pipe, it's hard to judge as there is no point of reference.

Well this is a lot better video than the one posted by silverado292.
All that showed was a robot doing nothing. And it didn't show what
this video does, so it makes a lot of difference.

Where's the Volcano of oil?? Just doesn't seem to me like this is the big leak and why is it laying on the ground sideways. Maybe this is one end of the pipe I thought it would be strait up and down with a bad valve attached. I wana see the real video. What took so long to show us this. There's Something FISHY here . I don't mean to play this down just thought it would be bigger for some reason..

This is a tough one. A touchy subject to say the least . But I don't know maybe that's the real leak. The hard part to me is ya just don't know what to believe anymore seems like we never get the truth I'd like to think we could handle it. Either way hope they can stop it before it hits the gulf stream and goes global. Well crawling back under my rock peace out all.

P.s. Where's Aqua man when you need him.

I think that pipe is 5 ft in diameter. Can't verify for sure, but...

Imagine a pipe five feet wide spewing crude oil like a fire hose at a rate of over 200,000 gallons per day from what could be the planet's largest high-pressure oil and gas reserve. Now consider that it only takes one quart of motor oil to make 250,000 gallons of ocean water toxic to wildlife. Are you starting to get the magnitude of this?

That doesn't look bad at all. You guys realize though that there is a good chance that what is in the video isn't the real leak.

HA,HA, just what i was thinking. That pipe laying sideways looks like sewer outfall, from high up sewer outfall looks like an oil leak, theres one about 5kms up the beach from me,on google earth you can see it.

I worked as a roughneck on drilling rigs for quite awhile. When I first
looked at that video my first impression was that it didn't look all that bad
and I even posted a response to that effect. I thought that the amount of
material coming out of the end of that pipe didn't appear to be very much.
Then I thought, even at that rate, it would still add up to a lot of oil over a
given time.

But now I'm thinking that this can't possibly be the blowout that occurred.
I have seen drill stem blowing the drill mud out of the end of the pipe and
it is a vicious thing to see with the amount of pressure involved. This
pipe laying on the ocean floor bent at a 90 degree angle couldn't possibly
be what is going on down there. If they had to drop a 90 ton cone shaped
weight on top of this little sewer pipe, it would have been way more than
enough needed to stop the oil for the most part. I really do think that this is
nothing more than a sewer pipe somewhere that they filmed and now they
want us to believe it is this big disaster on the ocean floor.

I have been on the drilling floor making what is called a round trip,
whereby the drill pipe is removed one stand at a time and is placed on
the rig floor vertically until you get to the very end where the drill bit is
located. When we would break each section with the tongs, the pressure
would be so strong at times, it would really blast you in the face and soak
you from head to toe with drill mud. It can be pretty painful and ruin your
day if the conditions were right. After we changed out the bit, we would
"go back in the hole" until you get to the very bottom and start drilling again.

I think that someone is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the vast
majority of people that don't know anything about drilling oilwells.
I can see a BS scenario here to say the least. Don't believe this for one
moment folks. This is a total lie they are laying on us all, and the sad part
of it is, that the average person who doesn't know anything about drilling
will most likely swallow this nonsense hook, line, and sinker, or is that
stinker? I wish I new the exact size of that so-called drill pipe they are
showing everybody. Normal drill pipe is approximately five inches in
diameter. The pipe in this video does look like that approximate size, but
if it is bent at a 90 degree angle, it would most likely shut off all flow of
fluids, including oil. Secondly, it would most likely just break off, and there
would be a tremendous blast of oil coming out, not the little steam pipe
size being portrayed in the video. Just my 1/2 buck. Prices went up.
